Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs

Where are you getting that price? 33s on TireRack are $700 before shipping, and 285s are $850 before shipping. Are you running a bigger rim or something?

Americas tire. They have always been good when I took anything in there to get it fixed but they are apparently more expensive. Maybe I'll take that price in there and try to get them to price match? :)

We just recently had a bit of local snow and it was my first chance to test them out in those conditions. Was VERY impressed at how they performed.

Yeah, started looking around online and actually came back to america tire's site. it was about the same price yet they gave me the quote above in store. I can afford to get rims as well if its only $900. Thank you tax return! :whoo: :biggrin2:

What is the difference between the E type tires and the C type? From what I can tell, only about $3 per tire.

First off, I have no idea what any previous owners did the my 4Runner. When I bought it there were already 285-75-R16 tires on my '96 Liminted.

I put the same size DuraTracs on it when I had to replace the no-name offroad tires that came on the truck (about 2yrs ago). There is no rubbing on my truck, but it is very close in several places. The exception is if my bumper falls out of position (the previous owners attached a brush gaurd to the bumper).

Comparatively, the asphalt holding ability of the DuraTracs far exceeds the previous tires. I never had a chance to test the old tires in proper offroad. However, I spent most of the last year in the MS Delta and had a chance to drive in the mud. Both myself, and the locals I was with, were incredibly impressed with my truck's ability to get itself out of situations. This was primarily attributed to the tires, because I certaintly don't know how to drive in mud.

That is their load rating. Meaning what size car/truck the tire is intended for. An E rated tire will have a much stiffer sidewall and are also heavier. They're meant for a full-sized truck. The cons on putting them on something lighter like these 3rd gens are that since they are stiffer and heavier, they will cut your mpg's more and also will take more power to get them moving. The pros are that if you off road a lot, they give you a bit more sidewall protection.

Oh and I should add that one negative I have heard about the Duratracs is them having a weak sidewall. I personally stuck with a C load, but I don't do any rock crawling.

My family seems to have the worst luck with tires. From quads to a full sized ford with a jeep and 4 runner in the middle, all of them have had major tire problems at some point. The tougher tire may be a better solution for me. Although I don't "rock crawl".

Or just get the replacement warranty on them. I personally got out of a set of E load BFG's because I couldn't take the stiffness and weight of them anymore.
