Feels good to finally have this thing in today after a year of owning the truck. I made a video of the sound, will attempt to link it. The sound is great! Very throaty!

haha of course a v8 sounds better. Paradox155 - I have the same year/model/color, love the sound. Good stuff.

Right on brotha! I love the truck, no complaints. I am going to write up a post about my paint as well later this week.

About 8 months ago I got my Runner "Ceramically Coated" and it has been one of the best moves ever. Since you are in SoCal go check out the guys over at 5PointAutoDetail. I got 5 layers of basically extra clear coat that is super hydrophobic and also protects the paint from scratches as well as clear coat peeling from the sun out here.

This is awesome...
mind if I ask what is set you back?

Not at all, so the grand total was $400 even.

The muffler plus the install was $340 and the weld on tip was $60.

I'm in the Navy and spend a lot of hours at work during the day so I wanted to find a shop that was close by, however you sometimes end up paying a premium for the convenience I suppose.

Did you keep the same size piping?

Negative. The stock piping is 2.25 inch and I moved up to a 2.5 inch pipe in the hopes that l would get better sound and I would get better airflow in turn giving me more horsepower and an increase in gas mileage.

From what I noticed you cannot go any bigger than a 2.5 inch pipe because of the way it's routed up above the spare tire. In my first picture you can see how it goes up and above the tire. It becomes a very tight fit. The 2.5 is perfect.

What part of San Diego? Would love to check it out and listen to it in person.

too bad flowmasters actually restrict airflow. probably on par with stock even with 2.5

they don't really restrict flow, they increase velocity (which is more important than "flow"). Flowmaster is a chambered design that works with exhaust pulses from the exhaust valves opening and closing..... now if you had a turbo'd engine you'd have a valid point

i did a bunch of research when putting together an exhaust set up on my last car, looking at dyno sheets, etc., and chambered designs (esp flowmasters) put down some of the worst numbers. Flow through mufflers are significantly less restrictive and are the way to go if power is your concern.

on a toyota 4runner. sure.... but flowmaster is designed the way it is for a reason. For the right application it it works.... problem is people slapping high performance mufflers on a 4runner expecting "performance" don't understand you have to pair a lot more to the equation for a minimal result beyond cool sound.
