got my first domestic truck....what do you think??

got a family of 5 now all under 5 years... we bought my wife's uncles 2006 dodge ram. pretty much fully loaded with the hemi engine. just wanted to post it up. it will be my first american vehicle. but i just love the body style of the rams. also got a smoking deal on it too. dont worry, still have my 4runner of course....

American Truck


Just be sure that it really is "American" by checking the VIN tag. Many Ram trucks were assembled in Mexico.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that hails from Canada.

The VIN will begin with a "2" for Canada and "3" for Mexico. US-built vehicles start with a "1" or a "4" as the first digit of the VIN. Of course, "W" indicates Germany and "J" stands for Japan. I have no clue what "5" means, though.

Good luck with the "Hemi" Dodge! I figure it is probably the 5.7L version you might have. Dodge made about three or four different versions of the Hemi engine in recent years. My Silverado has a 5.3L (~295 hp), which is more than strong enough to get it down the road.

its in perfect condition always well maintained perfectly. her uncle owns a speedee automotive shop in texas. so yea, everything has been well taken care of

I have read and heard of just to many problems with Chrysler products for me to ever buy one ever again. I had a Cordoba bought in 1978 new, it was a lemon I mean it was BAD, and nothing the dealer or any other Auto repair shop could fix any of it's problems.
And I still read horror stories about people trying to get their Chrysler products repaired.

i think strongly that if a vehicle is well maintained then most probably problems will be minimal. Vehicles made in the past 5 years seem to be pretty reliable if they are well taken care of. Many people who have problems have very little sense of proper maintenance of a vehicle. Then they complain and bash because they are unhappy. Don't get me wrong, I would drive a Toyota over anything, but my 4runner is just not big enough for our family now. I have good feelings towards this truck.

There are not many vehicles any more that will seat a large family. I like the looks of it and agree with you wholeheartedly that properly maintained it will give you years of perfectly reliable service.

My Dodge horror story was a 1984 Dodge Charger 2.2 from the Omni family if anyone can recall those whatsoever. It was a dark, dark time in US automotive history. My gut instinct was to get a Mazda GLC and in retrospect I sure wish I would have done so...

Was assembled incorrectly at the factory with a LeBaron engine ECU. When it ran it was fine, but it stumbled and died frequently. The salesman felt so sorry for me he loaned me his personal demo vehicle which then overheated.

They replaced the ECU-with the same ECU!-before a service tech finally thought to check the part number.... once it had a Omni/Charger ECU it ran fine but one of the happier days of my life was turning it in to the leasing company in 1987.

Have not touched a domestic since but as I age these feelings are mellowing.

Pretty nice. I probably would have gone with a F150 or 250 or a Tundra, but I'm sure you got a pretty good deal on that.

If I had one I would definitely throw on an exhaust, and 35's.

got it for $9000.... couldn't pass on the deal. whats funny is that he was going to trade it in and thats what the dealer offered him for it. so he said we could have it for that price. he ended up getting a 2010 toyota tundra. how ironic. pretty sweet.

my plans are too lift it eventually with 35s. something not too drastic but just clean since it will be our family's daily driver most of the time now.
