Got new tires yesterday, but......

The dealer insisted on a wheel alignment being done. I didn't pay for it but now the steering wheel isn't quite centered. It off just a bit. All else seems fine.

I want to get it straightened but don't want to go back to the dealer I got them from. Hate dealerships but they gave me a great price.

I want to bring it to a true tire shop buut to get the steering wheel fixed, do they need to redo the whole alignment?

I think it's a simple fix, from what I've been told, they make your wheel off to the right a bit so if you ever fall asleep at the wheel, you go to the right rather than down the center divider & into oncoming traffic.
I could be entirely wrong, so please don't flame me......

Alignment will fix your problem.

Alignment should be checked every 12months or 12,000 miles...but of course, I don't always follow that rule haha

Just take it to firestone, pay a little more and get a lifetime of alignments.

If the steering wheel is not centered and you are not happy with it being off center, take it back. The technician is supposed to center the steering wheel and use a special tool to hold the steering wheel straight when they adjust toe-in. They may have to check and readjust toe-in after centering the steering wheel. They should not need to readjust caster and camber.

Having done alignments, the problem stems from someone doing an alignment (not knowing what they are doing) and not locking the steering wheel center while making the necessary adjustments throughout. If you take it to Firestone and tell them, they may do it much cheaper then a full alignment but who knows.

yes, not to mention that the steering wheel's orientation has nothing to do with which way the car will drift if someone falls asleep. the wheel could be off to the right, and the car pull to the left...
