Gotopless Build

Looks like you and I have the same project for the weekend... Ready, set, go...

:tea:

My extended brake line is on back order so I'm waiting on that. Also waiting on my buddy to help me install the lift. You want to go wheel with T4rex once we get our lifts in? I also need to get my sliders welded on, I just hate working on the truck in the cold without a garage.

I ordered everything that I think I need for my CB install. Am I missing anything?

Cobra 19DX IV
18' CB Antenna Cable PL-259 to PL-259 Coax
2 UHF Male PL-259 to UHF SO239 Female Right Angle Adapters
FireStik Heavy Duty SO-239 Stud Mount
FireStik 3/8" Heavy Suty Steel Spring SS-3H
FireStik Firefly 4' 5/8 Wave CB Antenna Model FL4 Tunable Tip

good to go, you just need an antenna mount.

Oops forgot to mention that part. I just installed the Outdoor Logic Antenna mount yesterday. It scrapes my back hatch door when I open and close it. Do I need to grind down the mount? Is that common?

You can if you want. My ODL mount does the same thing but it just barely touches it, no big deal to me. You're gonna want to grind off the powdercoating around the hole of the antenna mount though. That powercoating messes with the SWR. I just took a dremel to mine. Then if you take your truck to a CB shop to get the antenna tuned, be prepared to have the guy ***** about it being powdercoated and also not stainless steel hahaha

My SWR ended up being 1.6. Ideally you want to shoot for 1.1 but that's pretty close. Something that will help with your SWR is adding a ground wire from the mount to the frame or the body. See what your SWR reading is first, and if it's too high, then add the ground wire.

Edit: I can't say b!tch now? I though the language filters were 'relaxed' lol

Hahaha!Guess not.

Cool man thanks for the info. I'll have to find a place to do that. I hate working in the cold so I may just wait until March to install it. Just has to ready by April 6th, got a wheeling trip planned.

Hhhhhhhhhok I wanted to make a small write up here for installing a cb into the dash. I've seen a few other write ups but nothing with enough detail.

First things first. We gotta remove this guy from the dash

To do this we have to slowly pull up the cup holder area and bezel. No screws here just pull.

Then cut off the back end of the ash tray you see here

006.jpg~original

Then we placed the cb in the dash mounted it by drilling new holes in the metal holder that came with the radio then using zip ties to hold them together.

Then we have to put the dash back in. On my model runner I have a factory amp in the way. Not all runners have them here and most Tacoma's don't even use this amp setup. I had to unbolt it and lay it down below so the CB could rest on it to keep it in place. Here's the amp.

I ran the 18' cable and power cable behind the dash and under the carpet on the drivers side. We have to pull up all the trim.

Drivers front

Drivers back seat

And remove the pieces in the rear

I cut an area for the cable to come out from under the plastic then I ended up just running it all under the plastic to keep it hidden and safe.

Had the coax cable come under the seal. We cut a little into the back hatch metal and sanded it down. Then ran the cable under and resealed. Then ran the coax under the bumper.

Now we need to power the CB. I wanted it to shut off when I turn off the truck so I don't leave it on and kill the battery. I ran the red cable (positive) to the fuse that controls the radio, clock, etc. It is (on my truck) fuse 15 top middle.

I wrapped the red around that fuse and put it back in. Then I ran black (negative) to a ground. I tied it around a bolt near the fire wall. No pic sorry. And here she is:

NIIIIICE.... thanks for the right up. I got my CB in the truck now... but not hooked to anything. I'll get some parts and be following most of your build. What about a 90 degree for that mic cable?

WHAT ABOUT THE LIFT!!!!!?

Thanks man I hope it helps. I have all the parts for lift in and my extended brake line also. I'm just waiting for a good day to install it. My buddy is supposed to help me do it here soon. It's just been real rainy here. Hows your rig coming along?

It's coming... After the lift i found play in my steering and have been plagued with brake issues, mushy pedal. But I love the lift and 285's. New rack on the way, new MC's lots of bleeding (the brakes and my knuckles) Definately thiknin CB on the way.

I'm kinda thinkin a 4' stick is too muc for me... maybe lookin at a 3'

I plan to stick with my 265's for awhile thats awesome you got some 285's. What rack did you get? I would recommend a 4ft Firestik just because the higher over the roof you can get the better signal you will have. Plus I don't think it looks too big. Here's more shots of mine.

One thing I would recommend though is to get a quick disconnect so you can take the antenna off when its not in use. I need to get one.

Also man I plan on wheeling as much as possible this coming spring and summer. PM your number and I'll hit you up so you can come too. I'm going April 6-7 for spring crawl Hazard KY.

oh, um.... steering rack. :eyebrows:

Yeah man, I might try to make that trip in hazard.

Man, you live around Central Baptist?

those look real nice... have you installed the lift yet ?

Thanks man I like them! Haven't installed the lift yet. Still riding on my daystar lift. Waiting for a good day to install the Toytec lift.

Awesome man just let me know I have a camp spot reserved and extra camp gear. I live close enough to Central Baptist. I work right next to it. You ever come to Lex? And what about a steering rack?

Sweet. I got PLENTY of camping gear myself. I was curious, the neighborhood that you live in looks like something off Rosemont Garden. I haven't been lately, but I have a work day scheduled there tomorrow likely.

Yeah, a little work to do on the truck. The lift showed me a braking issue that I've yet to pinpoint and some play in my rack. I ordered a reman'd one and will likely slap it on on Friday. Alignment Sat. I''ll PM you my number. Shoot me a text and I'll hit you up if I come up that way.

Ok awesome man. Naw that's my brother's house downtown. Dude hit me up tomorrow I'll be free until 5. That's a huge bummer on the brakes and lift giving you issues. Hope I don't run into similar issues when I do my lift.
