Gots me some new tires

What tires did I buy??

Thank god Thai doesn't agree with my purchase since I'd miss our banter which sometimes I just keep going to keep things interesting. :boxer:

Thai is a great debater and is so full of information and a great asset to this site and I love going back and forth with him but I don't want people to get the impression that there's bad animosity between us since I would gladly wheel with Thai and would welcome him to wheel with us in Colorado anytime he wants and see the G wagon in action.:party:

So far,I can tell with the Duratracs the dry grip was a tad better with the Nittos but we'll see once I get some miles on them and can't wait til the snow falls.

yeah, i can't really ban you since you're a moderator!! :D I am no way taking my G up to CO...i will bankrupt before reaching there paying for the gas! :(

I hear stories on both sides fairly often. On both Mojave Road trips there were other tire blowouts, and on our last trip to Big Bear, Blair busted the sidewall on his BFG MT.
 
I'm buying Duratracs this month :reddance: can't wait anymore, been dreaming about them for last 2 months. Fresh snow will be here in matter of weeks

I wonder if that's an apples to apples comparison since Nittos are available in P-rating, unlike KOs. Based on that, alone, I would expect more flats in a numerically fair comparison. From reading here, I know people often omit the P or LT when describing their tires. I wonder how the numbers would shake out if people only had LT Nittos out on the trail.
 
Like I said there's usually more to the story. I've had my Nittos off road over 30 times and rubbed on some serious rocks and I'm not really a slow driver on the trails and did some pretty good bouncing around on the TGs and they held up better than I thought they would. I think Nittos fill the gap nicely between the BFGs off road durability (which they have a slight edge on the Nittos) and the more street oriented manners of the REVOs or LTXs.
 
Ron, looks great! those are only avail as load E, correct? What pressure are you running them at and how would you describe the stiffness as compared to the NTG's? Look forward to your future comments on wet weather and snow performance.

The Duratracs come in a C and E.
 
I got the C and they do ride better than the Nittos but we'll see how they do off road hopefully next week before the snow really flies.

Not sure how Blair did that...but just imagine IF he had Nittos on instead of BFG MT!! The bottom line is that you equip your truck to the terrain, not to what looks cool or bling.
 
What's ironic is alot of BFG buyers base their purchase on the looks alone since I see a many trucks around here on a daily basis that will never see beyond a gravel road with their BFGs.

I base part of my decision on looks but if if that was my priority I'd have bought BFGs since they are one of the coolest looking tires out there but I bought my Nittos back in '05 based on some other people's comments that had them on their 4Runners and that was before I actually saw them and was recommended them by some respected yotatech members. My TGs surpassed my expectations on the street and inspired more confidence in the wet than any of the previous sets of BFGs I'd driven on and off road it was really a wash since I never had any issues with BFGs or my Nittos off road.

The biggest part of my choice back then was the reviews I read and price and they simply were so much cheaper than BFGs and they decision paid off for me quite well.

My purchase of the Duratracs was based a little on looks but price was competitive (paid the Nittos price) and I did want something different and I've chatted with a few people locally that have over 15k on their sets that liked them and off road they performed fine but going with the E load rated version might be better if you really off road consistently.

My truck is my DD which sees about 8000 miles a year and I hit the trails (I'm an intermediate trail rider and don't do extreme crawling) about 10 times a year between April and Oct and the Nittos worked great for my particular needs and I expect the Goodyears will be fine too.

And yet you went to buy a tire (Duratrac) that is rated by GOODYEAR itself as being an average on-pavement performing tire! And knowing how past Goodyear tires have done in terms of balancing issues and pavement performing (exception being Wrangler SA), you went with a tire that is unproven.

Hmmm, interesting choice of tire, RonM....

Although LT may improve the toughness factor of a tire, you are still dealing with a sidewall that is no stronger than a LT REVO or LT Dueler or any other LT highway tire. If RonM did not off-road much, then i agree with his choice (past and present). However, he claims that he off-roads frequently (more so than me!) and considering where he is living, why not pick the goodyear Wrangler Silentarmor (if he hated BFG AT KO so much)??? Goodyear Wrangler SA was designed to be aired down, designed with a stronger sidewall, and is great on-road! Would that not be a better choice?

RonM is simply going after looks and cheap. My opinion on the matter.
 
Would you say the Goodyear SA's sidewall is equal in strength to the BFGs? I'm interested that you say the GY's are great off-road because they certainly don't get the hype that the bfgs/nittos do.
 
These guys got their tires back in January and they were available on a limited basis in Colorado back then.

Thai,it seems to me I get in your craw for some reason with anything I say about tires or politics and you keep coming after me specifically. I'm not spouting lies or exaggerations and am only posting my experiences and why do you care so much about what I bought and try to discredit me at every turn? I don't really care but it sure seems an issue like my opinions aren't valid.
I think we've spouted enough info between the two of us that most members here will choose a tire they really have a need for and won't over buy or underbuy a tire.

Let's make some peace already and just agree to disagree instead of turning every thread I start or will start about my current tires into a debate and bringing the thread mood down.
If these current tires fail me I'll be the first on this board to report it since I have nothing to gain from proving you right or wrong.

I'm happy so far with my choice but yes,there's alot more miles to cover before I can say they are worse or better than my Nittos were to me.
