granite interior

Hi,
I just bought a new Sport yesterday for my husband. He is in Afghanistan and will be back in May hopefully. I want to get all of the modifications done for him that I know he wants. He's getting a big birthday surprise, but he deserves it because of this deployment. I now know how to add the Homelink. Thanks everyone! The other thing he wanted was the granite interior like the Limited. Can anyone tell me how to get it? Just like the Homelink, Toyota told me that they couldn't add it.

P.S. Don't tell him, but I drove it today! :-) I just might sneak it out more before he gets home.

Thanks,
Kim

you are such a good wife!

it may be difficult to get all the granite pieces to upgrade, as they are not stick-ons and you will have to replace the whole assembly (i.e. - the middle of the center console). looking at partznet.com, you may have to replace the whole inside door panel just to get the stone trim on the doors as they only list down to the inside door panel and not the trim that's on it, and they cost $300 some odd dollars each! you can try searching partnet to piece them all together, but i think it'll be very expensive. checkout this illustration at partznet: http://www.trademotion.com/partloca...=2004&graphicID=8416445&callout=5&catalogid=2

on the otherhand, you could try stick-on trims like they have at http://www.burtmanindustries.com , but personally i don't like stick-ons...

Careful ... it's addictive and you might decide that he never gets to drive it!! :D

And let us take this chance to thank you for all you and he do on our behalf. We appreciate it!!

Getting the aftermarket stick ons will be your cheapest bet and some of them are high quality.

krae13937 has to be a woman. Shes from Florida not Massachusetts or Hawaii. Plus her husbands in the military so "don't ask don't tell...) :D

Oh yeah, don't forget to roll back the odometer so your husband doesn't know you've been wheeling around town ;):

Hey everyone!
Yes - I am a female
:hello:

I just dropped off the truck this morning to get the leather added. He wanted the dark grey. I also had them add the wind guard on the sunroof and the bug guard. And a spoiler.

He didn't have an alarm on the Solara he had, but I'm having one added to this. I feel safer. My luck it would get stolen before he gets home.

My next trip will be to get the tint done.
I also ordered the Homelink. Do you all think I can install it following all the advice you've given or should I have an expert do it?
I was looking at the door guards. I think that's what they are called. By the floor when you open the door. I'd like to get those.

Anyone have any other ideas of things that he would like?

Thanks,
Kim

And I will need the instructions on how to roll back the odometer !! I'm at 250. Can you imagine by May what I will be at?

granite

And I have two different samples of the stick on interior granite coming. Do you think I should get some if I like it? Or do you think that should be something I should wait for him to decide.

It;s hard to decide what to get because I don't want to take the fun away from him when he gets home. I want to leave him plenty to do on his own. Like I know he wants one of the bars in front, but I don't know which, so he can get that later.

What's difficult is that I have been reading everything you have posted and have become really excited about the project and want to do all these great things to the 4Runner.

Think I've got the 4R addiction? :driving:

Yeah, you've got the addiction!

As far as the Homelink, you can do it yourself as it is really simple. Check the thread regarding it or just ask when the time comes.

Once you get the granite samples, post some pics, we will help you decide! Of course, like you said, maybe your husband wants to have a part in this...

Welcome to the forum Mrs. Florida military wire. I have two questions for you. First, how much did the alarm cost? Second, whey you receive the examples of the stick-ons; please post some pics and the total price. I am thinking of getting some of the gray stick ons for the inside of my runner.

I think you're talking about the aluminum door sills. They attach with double side tape. You may want to check out www.trdparts4u.com. That's where I got mine. They have good prices...much better than the dealers. I think it's awesome what you're doing for your husband. He's a lucky man. If you need any help/suggestions/tips, just let us know. Great group of folks here with lots of knowledge.

Ed.

Hi,
You are all wonderful for helping me!

The alarm was the upgraded dealer alarm. It was between $250 and $300. In that range. My concern was that I had a home A/V and Mobile audio company, (Sound Advice) put an alarm in my van years ago and it has never worked correctly. And I was an employee there! So I just wanted to go with ease and get it done at the dealer. This way any problems they have to fix it.

I will scan and post the pics as soon as I get the stick on samples. One of the companies is Burtman. I forget the name of the other, but it was a company that people have talked about here.

And for all you guys - I need ur opinion. Should I get the door sill plates like they have at Burtman & TRD. with the straight line? Or the ones from Brandsport with the little box design. I know which I like, but I need a male opinion on this.

I got an email that says my homelink was shipped, so I should get it soon. I have been teasing Bobby (my husband) that I got him an extra special bday present. One that I have to put together and there aren't any instructions :-)

And can someone explain exhaust tips to me?

Also, is adding chrome a guy thing? Bobby likes the all black look. He has talked about taking off the emblems when he gets a 4Runner (shhhhhh ;-) don't tell)
I really really hope he doesn't look at this board - cause I might have just been busted if he does.

And - he is lucky, but so am I. And this project will keep me busy til he comes home in May.

Door Sills - I personally like the straight line ones

Exhaust Tips - Just a little piece that goes on top of the exhaust tip at the back. It screws in with little screws around the factory exhaust and it is just a visual enhancement. There isn't a performance or audible change.

Chrome - eck... I personally don't like it and thats probably why I removed the emblems on my 4th gen. It seems to give it a "cleaner" look.

You shouldn't have a problem if he looks at this board because "Kim" was a fake name you used too fool him right... ;):
After you give him your project, you should show him this thread. I'm sure he'd like to see what you went through to put a smile on his face.

You RAWK!

I personally like the ones from Brandsport. They are from Toyota and made to fit around the existing plastic sills. I believe the other ones just stick on top of the plastic sills. Also, I think they only have them for the front doors. I didn't think they had a matching set for the rear.
