I have to tell you what I'm planning to do. I am going to take the 4Runner and have someone else drive my van to the armory on the day he comes in. No one else is driving the 4R !!! ;-)

I am going to park my van so it hides the 4Runner next to it. Then when we are all done with the ceremonies, walk to my van and ask him if he wants to drive.

If he says yes, then I pull out Toyota keys and say - then I get to drive this and point.

If he says no - then I say -here you have to drive this.

Then I get to watch his jaw drop :bugeye:

He is supposed to leave Afghanistan the last week of April. The 30th is his birthday. He should get back down here mid-May.
If you can, have a friend take a picture of the "priceless moment" when he sees the 4Runner and finds out you bought it.

And you're probably counting the days until April 30.

I got the Homelink installed !
It only took me about 7 mins to do it all. I got stuck pulling the plug out. Was scared I was going to break it.

I also got my trash bag in the mail last night.

Still waiting on the door sill protectors.

Had to finally fill it up with gas. I REALLY haven't driven it that much. Think I can lie and say it had 800 miles on it when I bought it?:D

He is a Ram's fan, so I got him a black plate frame with Ram's on it, so if he sees the 4R, before I tell him about it, I think that will give it away.

No - I'm here. Bobby and I have just been out cruisin all over in the 4R, so have no extra time. :naughty: Plus have had other things to catch up on !

He loves it !:bouncy2:
Someone did let the cat out of the bag early though, so he knew about it before he got home. :behead: But that's okay cause it was still a huge surprise. I think I have been "allowed" to drive it twice since he came home !!

He tinted it and we got satellite radio. We also added the window wind guards. Should have listened to others on this board. We got the ones that fit inside the window and one is already cracked cause they don't fit right. We had the tint guy who is a friend of his, install them, so I know thay were put in right, so anyone else adding these, please use the outside adhesive kind. We are going to re-do them. He also added a bass tube and amplifier. Now he's looking at some kind of mod for under the hood that adds more miles ??? I'm so technical! :-)
And he's looking at the guards for the front of the truck.

Before he came home, I told him about this board, so he was showing all of his friends over in Afghan what I was doing. I think he got a huge kick out of all this, and it helped the time go by quicker, so I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for helping !!!!

That's too bad your wind guards cracked, (what brand are they? Maybe you can get them to send you another one?)I have the kind that snap in, and love them. I had the stick on kind on my old 4Runner, and thought they kinda looked cheesy. They just didn't look as nice as these snap in kind.

Glad to here that he liked it. I was really into seeing how you hooked up his ride. My family gets a little bored of all my 4runner talk (or at least I think they do) but they were totally interested in what you did for your man. I can imagine how much fun it must have been for him to check it out while abroad..........that definitely makes up for the lack of surprise.

I don't remember off-hand what kind the window guards are. I got them from an on-line Toyota Dealer though. I thought the one's outside wouldn't look right either -that's why I got these. I tinted over these windows - does that make the inline window ones not work correctly?

Thanks for all of your support and help. I'm trying to talk him into the chrome door handles next, Luxury. Have to get the emblems off first though.

I tinted my windows too, and haven't had a problem.

I'll go out and look and see what brand mine are, they are aftermarket, not Toyota, not sure if it matters tho. I would contact the place you bought them from, and see what they might do. Worth a shot.

Here is a pic of mine

just went out and looked, mine are weathertech.

weathertech are the best brand you can get hand down!! they're not made out of the cheap thin plastic like the one the dealer sell and other. They fit perfectly around the inner window without any problem. They cost about $100 a set but their are worth it IMO.

I had the Weathertechs on my Maxima and I had problems with them. They would bind my windows up when I closed them. You could hear the power window motors strain when they reached the deflectors They actually threw the driver's side window slightly off the track so I got rid of them. It was too bad because they looked really nice. Maybe I had a bad set because I know a bunch of folks here have had good luck with theirs. Good luck.

with mine, I had to get them seated right before it would stop tripping the 'finger pinch' protection of the drivers window. But once they got seated correctly, they have been great.
