Grease discovered on brake pads

Guys & gals,

I was doing a front brake job on my '08 4Runner (80,000 miles) last week when, upon investigation, I saw that there was a significant amount of grease on my brake pads on the driver's side. So much so that the groove in the factory pads was filled in. I looked at the CV boot and everything looks good. No grease on the upper or lower control arms, only in the brakes (1 side) and inside the rim. Any idea where this is coming from? Do I have a wheel bearing that is on its way out? There is no noise from the bearing...yet.

Take a better look all around the CV, I bet you may have missed the boot end getting loose.

You 100% sure it's grease and not goopy road grim?

Either bearing thats about to fail horribly. But you would have noise associated with that while driving like roaring\grinding.

Or its a CV boot leaking that will lead to CV joint failure. Either way you need to figure it out asap.

There's not that much grease in the wheel bearings compared to earlier gens. My bet is CV boot end..Mine have been leaking out the little end for almost 3 years no problems yet.

I have to admit that I finished that side at about 11 pm after installing a garage door opener that day as well so I may have missed it. I'll take another look when I am off work this week.
