Grease gun

Hi folks..

today while I was at Napa.. I was like.. is been quite some times since I had lube the chassis + drive shafts..

so I have brought 2 tubes of Mobil 1 grease.. but I don't know which grease gun and fittings should I go with? is there an special one it needs for our rig?

and how often should it be greased?

also, would an pistol grip would be better over an pneumatic one?

thanks

You want one with a flexible hose (not a rigid one), makes it much easier to get into tight spaces, and to access the nipples.:biggrin2:

Not bad, 5 replies and one real answer gotta love how we hold a lube job in such high esteem.

I have one with a rigid hose and it works but Ian is right, a flexible hose would be a lot easier.

If you are stock suspension and on the ground, you will find it is impossible to do the rear nipple with the rigid hose. Even with a tall '99, I couldn't do it.

man.. the word lube never gets old... lol

anyways..

any recommend brands i should stay with? and what fittings do I need for it? or is it universal?

thanks.

Son? Is that you? This is me, Dad.
Don't worry about your little brothers. The are still immature.
The word "lube" throws them into a tizzy.

When they have nothing to add, they giggle trying to cover up their lack of knowledge.
They'll grow up someday.

PS: This diy on lubing the driveshaft has hints on what grease gun to buy and this thread recommended by NelsonMD discusses the Mobil1 grease you're using.

dad, suppose Nancey sees me coming out of the shower and decides to come on to me, im lookin good, i got a luscious "V" of hair, going from my chest pubes down to my ball fro. and she takes one look at me and she goes, oh my god..., ive had the old bull, now i want the young calf, and she grabs me by the wings....

I just got one from Home Depot. It's a Lucas grease gun. It doesn't have the flexible attachment, but it works just fine for me. Don't overspend on one as you'll only use it a few times a year.

yeah.. there is an pistol grip one on sale at O'reilys starting tomorrow for $9.99..

I saw that one at home depot too..

Robert,

did you have to get another fittings for it? or the one came stock worked for our rigs?

No I just used the one on it. It worked fine for me and was a simple maintenance to do. It's time to do it again this weekend.

rather not start another thread but jump bump mine..

I'm in the market for white lithium grease..

is there an specific ones our rig uses? or can I just use regular ones?

thanks.

I just use the spray stuff from the auto store. CRC I think. You are just talking about door latches and hinges, the throttle linkage, seat tracks, hood latches, etc., right? There is no specific spec that I have ever seen. You could use out of a tube or gun, too, for these applications. It's all good.
