After spending time deployed in Afghanistan with the Global War on Terrorism, I came to a decision quickly. I knew that I would be purchasing an SUV soon, and was debating for some time between the 4Runner and the Honda Pilot. Once arriving in country, I noticed a trend. 95% of the civilian vehicles here were Toyota's. The military also uses them almost exclusevely here. I noticed that they were beaten up and rode rough and hard on the brutal Afghanistan terrain, and the vehicles kept on going.
That was when I decided that my next vehicle would be a Toyota. If you could only see what these vehicles are put through you would understand.
Now we have an '04 Sprot V6 4x4 and love it. Plan on perfroming a few simple upgrades like a hood protector, sprot bumper, etc. My wife has had no problems driving in in the snow in Upstate New York, and feels very safe in it. It also helped our decision to purchase this product when I found out that it was rated as one of the best picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Thanx to one and all, and I don't want to deceive any one out in Web land. Unfortunately I'm still here in the stan. I had to return home for an emergency leave (death in family) and took advantage of the oportunity to buy the 4Runner for the wife. I should leave here in a few months, that will give me about 11-12 months total.

p.s. I was not in that truck, lol. And it is one of my favorite pictures.

Homeward bound.


also, I have looked at www.toyota.ca to find information on the hood protector Loyd has. I will need to travel to Canada upon my return to find a dealer with the hood protector in his inventory. I was hoping to do the purchase on-line, but I'm always glad to travel to Canada.

After researching through this web site, and other sites on accessories, this is what I plan to do when I return.

I like the Idea of the T&H Bull bar, but plan to get the black one and have it painted silver to match the body color of my 4Runner, like Loyd did.
I also plan to travel to Canada and purchase a hood protector from the nearest dealer who has one. Might make it an overnighter though so I can drink some beer in Kingston or Brewereton, or even Ottawa.
I plan to purchase an exhaust tip and some door sill protectors, still trying to decide who to get those from.
Still trying to decide what is the best satellite radio system out, and which one's can be controlled from the steering wheel controls.
Eventually plan to purchase a rear entertainment center, for my son.
All in all, it will eventually be a very nice hoopdee.
