Grinding the Tundra caliper to fit stock 16" wheels...

Hey all, this has been beaten to death on here but here is yet another question about a Tundra break upgrade... I have 00 T4R LTD with stock 16" wheels so I already know it won't clear... I don't want to get spacers and I don't want to get new wheels, so my question is, instead of grinding part of the wheel, would it be possible to grind just the caliper? I know the dust shield also needs to be cut, this is not a big deal, I just want to know if I could get away with just grinding down the surface of the caliper itself without touching the wheel... Which wheels you have, I think some fit.

I believe both of these wheels fit and both are 16". I know the first ones are Tacoma wheels but they are still 16"

If he has the split tri stars than they wont work, I think 2000's came with the older ones.

To the OP I heard you can grind the caliper but have also heard people say the fluid passage is near where you grind and you can go to far rupturing this fluid passage.

I would grind the wheels or get spacers.

Take the calipers back and get the 199mm if you have the split 3 wheel.

199's will fit the split three spoke.

231's fit almost every stock wheel except the split 3. And anything 15".

But for sure, don't grind anything.

Please check a couple of posts above, I posted a pic of the rims... I don't think mine are split tri star... Is the one below the split tri star? Sorry I don't know the terminology... Being a noob and all...

I wouldnt grind anything, just pick up some cheap, but quality 1/4" spacers ( IF you need them) But im pretty sure they clear the wheels pictured. I payed $10 for spacers and picked up some ET lug nuts which added 1/4" more thread engagement, so it still bites onto the lugs the same amount.
Trimming the dust shields is 100% required.

Yes, these are the split 3 spoke. They willl rub the wheel, you have to have about 1/8" spacer to clear, hence why i got 1/4".

I re-read the BigFishAllDay's post regarding this upgrade and it turns out i have the "OEM 4-Runner "5-Star" wheels" that's on his white list of wheels that would fit the 199 and 231 calipers. Yours will only fit the 199mm, not the 231. IDK, if you were going that direction or not.

Can you confirm that factory 5 stars will NOT fit the 231mm? According to BigFishAllday's thread outlined on above link they should... On the next page he did this on a family member's T4R that has the 5 stars and they fit OK?

And here, towards the bottom, a couple of more people confirm they fit without any grinding with 1/4" of space between caliper and wheel...

Agreed. I did this yesterday. I have an 2002 with OEM 5 stars and a 231MM Tundra upgrade with Power Stop and Brembo rotors. It works great.

On another note....

DON'T GRIND YOUR EFFING CALIPERS. EVER. I KEEP SAYING IT AND I DON'T CARE IF IT GETS ME BANNED. AS LONG AS I MAKE MY POINT. NO CALIPER GRINDING. EVER. PERIOD.

Hey, even I was starting to get confused towards the end... I'm fairly certain by now that they will fit so I'm getting this "kit" and will call it a day.. I wish it were the semi metallic or whatever but I'll live with ceramic...

I just went to the shop I bought the wheel/tire combo from and told them I needed "ET " style lug nuts. They fixed me up. The type of ET you need depends on the type lug nut u have now, ex. Acorn, conical, etc.. They cost be about $1.50 ea.
