I've got to ask this question. Aside from the "coolness factor" what benefit do these rooftop tents offer compared to an expedition quality, ground-use tent?

In terms of the following attributes, wouldn't a ground-based tent be much more practical for camping, overlanding, traveling?

- transporting size;
- transporting weight;
- ease of transporting;
- ease (quickness) of set-up/take down;
- flexibility/versatility (to be able to pitch a tent and yet still be able to use our truck to go explore)
- cost

What am I missing?

Edit: Sorry, not trying to steer this thread away from the original subject matter. It's just that I have seen multiple photos of rooftop tents depicted and these photos have reminded me to ask the question that I have posed above. Feel free to respond by PM. Thank you.
