**Group Buy: Gobi Racks and accessories**

TrailDuty seems to have serious pull with them. They had a new ladder bracket overnighted with one phone call. I tried for three weeks by myself.

That's just bullcrap! So it's more apparent that they do not care about their general customers. I seriously have had enough of Gobi's customer service and will be sure to steer everyone I know away from them. Hopefully I'll not need their customer service after this.

Same point I am at. Baja kills them in CS and their product is as good or better.

No joke, I broke a few bolts on my rack. Baja was here in town for Overland Expo and DELIVERED them to me at my office!

shipment delayed till monday...

although its not gobi's fault at this point. freight is having delays/problems

thought i would keep everyone updated, especially those who are canadian and picking up in the states.

uh,

i didn't speak to the shipper direct, sandra at gobi did.

afaik, the rack SHOULD be where it needs to be friday with a worst case scenario being wednesday.

FLG (Forward Logistics Group) shipping is the name of the freight company Gobi used to ship mine. They were great to deal with when I had a question about my delviery.
I called this number (901) 435-9002 (TN), and was given the number to their CO office. I think the number to their CO office is: (303) 574-0099.
Great folks to deal with and they helped me contact the local folks to get my rack delvered.

Hope this helps.

mine was shipped via land air express.

its in washington, just awaiting transfer to point roberts.

I did, but I also ordered mine direct form Gobi. Special discount...anyways, I contacted them (Gobi - Sandra) in ref.
S

Looks like I need to call gobi direct to get the freight carrier info and make contact to see where my rack is.

It seems like this is harder than it should be.

RiDE told me that the freight company would contact me to arrange delivery, so I have been waiting to hear from them. Gobi told RiDE that my rack shipped toward the end of the week before last and I should get the rack this past week, Friday at the latest, and still no word on an ETA or anything.

Call freight. I had a similiar issue and it turned out the truck driver was dialing the wrong area code to lock on time for delivery. Rack had been sitting for a couple days awaiting delivery. Anyhow, that was figured out and rack was delviered next day.
Once item arrives it is all worth the wait. (IMHO) I could not be more pleased with my purchase (stealth, sunroof insert, ladder, and new shocks).
Heck, I am waiting monTHS for my Shrockworks sliders...whatever works. I guess I could drive up to see Bud before I move West to order a set of his, but, I will still have to wait his production time. So, all in all, its a wash.

I just sent some of you guys some updates via Email. Racks are starting to show up everywhere now. Don't worry.

In regards to Trail Duty having more "pull". That is bull. It's all the same lead time and que time. Gobi just has never experienced a back up in raw materials like this which is why Trail Duty says 4 weeks max because it's never happened to them. This is the first time they've had a hold up like this in raw materials. During this time I took on a good amount of orders which backed everything up even more.

Also, this is a Gobi thread for info and product availability. Please be respectful of the thread and its content and keep the Baja advertisements out. Go start another thread for that. You proved your point, we get it.

Who is advertising for Baja? Its a PUBLIC forum and people having conversation. If I worked for Baja or something then maybe it could be advertisement. I dont, merely stating experience with GOBI. Believe what you will, it wont be the last time they have excuses as its not the first.

Yah, this is a sale thread for GOBI racks, not a comparison thread of various rack companies

Out of respect for the OP, I think people should keep the discussion in this thread to gobi only.

For what it's worth now for those people thinking about ordering a Gobi, I ordered mine just over a week ago and it will be ready for me to pick up by wednesday. Unfortunately I won't be able to get down there until saturday to pick it up. So it looks like they are back to about 2 week turn around times. I know a few of you had problems with customer service, but I never had an issue getting in contact during the past 2 weeks...just my experience, but I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them in the future.

I am happy for you that you are getting your rack so quickly.

But that is total BS, I ordered a rack on April 26th, one week ago gobi said it shipped and that it would be delivered this past Friday at the latest. Now it turns out they aren't going to even ship the rack until June 15th, that's two more weeks.

That puts my order at 7 weeks!

If I was told 7 weeks at the beginning, this rack would not have been an option.

Now people that ordered in June are getting their racks before me.

Shrockworks did that with me and 4ShoreRunner. He ordered some Shrockworks stuff during the last big group buy, and I ordered some about three months later (at full price). I had mine a week after I ordered, and his hadn't even shipped yet, so he canceled. Seems like a very poor way of doing business, but I'm sure it makes fiscal sense to them in some way for asset turnover at the end of the year (at least I hope that's why they chose to burn customers...).

It seems to me that these group buys completely overwhelm the fabrication shops that we all love so much. BudBuilt won't do them because he knows he doesn't have the capacity at this point and doesn't want to put his company in that position. He's even withholding the release of products for the 5th Gen because he knows he won't be able to keep-up with the orders as soon as he releases them. For me, the agita that seems to come along with these group buys isn't worth the modest discount they usually offer.

In your case, it sounds like they forgot about your order completely or shipped your rack to someone else to get someone else off their back.

The thing is, as I understand it, this is not a traditional group buy for gobi racks through RiDE.

He is a dealer and he is giving the forum members a good price on the racks. There was no minimum order and there was no hold on production until a minimum number of racks were ordered. There has not been an end date as I recall either.

So to me, these racks ordered through RiDE are just like any other order that GOBI would see from a dealer. Maybe I am mistaken?

Typically a manufacturer will sell racks through dealers at a "dealer rate" which is less than MSRP, the dealer typically turns around and sells the rack to customers at MSRP and makes a profit on the sale. The manufacturer has the added bonus of free marketing from the dealer and customer relations through the dealer and doesn't directly have to deal with the customer (less overhead). It is a win win for both parties.

So the group buy directly with shrockworks is a little different.

There were no terms to the Gobi "group buy" where the racks pu rchased through RiDE are put on the back burner. The timeframe was 2 weeks finished product, one week for shipping freight and a couple extra days if you have a custom request.

I understand material order delays, but what is not excusable is changing the production order from first received, first built to first received, last built.

The other major issue I have is Gobi not communicating the material delays, if they would have said, "tubing delay, 20 racks ahead of you, we build one rack a day, so we won't have your rack started for another 4 weeks" that would have allowed me make a decision to go somewhere else for a rack if that new timeline was not acceptable to me. Instead the communication was, a couple more days, they are backed up, then it was a couple more days, then it was your rack will ship the end of this week, expect a call from the shipping company middle of next week, now it is " two more weeks before your rack is even built."

So your rack hasn't even been built yet...?

The update I received Friday said:

Expected ship date June 15th.

I would assume that means it has not been built yet.

holy crap dude that sucks.

i too was originally supposed to get mine 2 weeks build time and 1 week ship time.

i had planned my holidays around that time frame and secured days off to enjoy nature with my new rack.

turned out that that 3 weeks became 4 then 5 and well now its in its 8th week. hopefully i'll get it this week meaning that i got it 9 weeks after ordering...

hoping to salvage some time off so i can head out like i had planned
