So just so I’m clear, this item is the OBD 2 cable AND also the software necessary to basically have the Toyota tech stream scan tool on your personal laptop? I currently use a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with windows 10 so I’m assuming it would be compatible with this product? And this product would allow you to make adjustments to the vehicle like seatbelt chimes and other customizable features? Is there a subscription fee or is it a one time purchase and it’s yours?

I just want to be the same page. I would love a product like this.

Your friend "Darren Mason" is buying the cables on Alibaba or Aliexpress. If you are wanting to save a couple dollars, find a vendor on there and make a small order.

The cable is nothing special. OP still needs a VM to run it and can't even post what he did wrong and what instructions he got to fix a simple issue.

I'm not saying the cable does not work, but anyone here can buy that $25 dollar cable and still get the same results.

OP is holding off the instructions the vendor gave him, because that is the selling point.

First of all, I don't need a vm to run my Techstream cable; this one runs directly on the windows platform (do not assume!). The problem that I ran into was with windows 10. I had to uninstall it because there is a problem with it's flawed update's compatibility with the DVD/CD operation, "Touch-pad, R & L click buttons, and volume buttons on the keyboard!

After uninstalling win-10, I needed to re-install about five apps, and all of their components and there was one thing that I forgot to do when re-installing Techstream, so I reached out to my vendor... That's it! ...you might consider achieving double digit posts BEFORE you come on here criticizing others who are seriously reaching out to help other members on forum, IJS!

you can find the software all day long on google and the cable is widely available on ebay or amazon.


i'm sure ridtec had good intentions by starting this, but here is an example of the same software and cable on aliexpress for ~$10.

To whom it may concern

Most of the guys/gals here who are able to work on their own 4Runners, have experimented with user laptop driven, Toyota Techstream software cables to cut down the expense of leasing the 'Services' from Toyota (which can cost hundreds very quickly). Their pricing may be okay; if the tools are paying for themselves for use on customer's vehicles, but the majority of us here aren't using these cables for that purpose!

Just for clarification... My objective has 'NEVER BEEN' to charge money to help anyone here who is having trouble with their electrical or any other technical systems on these vehicles. So for anyone to say that I'm 'Peddling', or that this vendor from ebay; whom I've never met or spoken with on the phone is 'My Friend' is an Impunitive statement, and highly suggestive!

If there's anyone here who would like to have their own Techstream Group buy... I'm all for it! I'm ready to take this one down! it's already becoming a PITA! But I'd really feel bad doing that because of the loyal, dedicated, knowledgeable, quick-to-help, members here who I love, respect, and feel connected to; they're the one's that make all this stupidity worth while!

I suspect the issue is tracking down a 64-bit driver, rather than anything inherent to the cables. Nearly all USB -> serial cables use one of a handful of chips, so the variation is how the chip identifies iteslf to Windows, and what drivers come with the cable. If we can get a cheap cable that either comes with a 64 bit driver or has one available elsewhere, that would definitely be a valuable resource for the forum.

My VM solution, at least, hasn't been super stable. Running USB into a VM introduces some latency that some things aren't happy with (for example, I know of people bricking Motorola radios by running the programming software in a VM). I think the Toyota OBD interface is a little bit more error-proof, but I definitely notice that it's slow and sometimes fails for no apparent reason. Plus, if we can get an easy-to-install package together it's arguably less work for a new person than installing a VM product.

VM solution is running the same bootleg software, you’re just pretending it’s win xp so u can use the xp drivers. Honestly, VM is the complicated solution. Atleast it was until this random cable came into the picture.

This is a great question I think, because the buyer's should know (before hand) exactly what to expect from this product... incidentally, my laptop is an HP Notebook w/WIN-10 (64 bit) OS (and flawless operation).
