H.I.D. question

I'm sure some of you guys have bought an aftermarket HIDs. What brand do you recommend and since for 3rd gen 4runner, it's an H4 which is both low/hi bulb. Would it be only to have low bulb only? Not like i rarely use my high bulb right?

There are some companies that make HID retrofit systems for the dual beams with lo/high together, but I don't think they're very popular or preferred as far as dependability goes. If you'd like to upgrade your headlights, perhaps go with a PIAA Extreme bulb and maybe some driving/fog lights. If you're set on HIDs, check out XenonDepot and email them to see what's available for your truck. I know they've done kits for the 3rd gen 4Runners, but don't know if they retained the Hi beam functionality or not.

Do you know what kind of bulbs Tundra uses? I ask because their bulbs are dual fil's too and I know one guy that has HID's on his that has both low and high embedded in the HID.

Let me know so I can ask for ya.

Thanks!

I have a great write-up here and searced hi and low to find the best one I could find.

Since you have a 96-02, you would lose the High beams. If you have a 03-06 you won't, since the high beams on those years have their own stock bulb.

I also have a version for hi/lo beams, not listed on the site. They have a motorized shield that moves to allow the beam pattern to go higher. They are about $100 more than the standard set. Most don't go with it, since you really won't need high beams again, but it's avail.

The following pictures show a 2005 4Runner comparing aftermarket regular halogen bulbs vs the 4300k H.I.D. kit.
(Keep in mind) if regular stock bulbs were used, the difference would even be greater!

I just did a HID sealed beam H4 conversion on my 1st gen 4runner with a kit I got on ebay that had xenon low beams and halogen high beams on the same bulb and it works great! I bought a sealed beam to h4 conversion kit first, then bought the h4 hid kit seperately. The kit worked fine on my dads civic with stock H4 system, but didn't work on my 4runner. I bought a headlight wiring harness for $10 at walmart and wired it to the lights and they work fine now. I think the halogen high beam set up works great and I don't know if it's worth it . I will do a write up soon on the install.

i got a Denso HID set 4100k, paid under 150 for them.

fits perfect on the H4 housing w/ slight retrofitting.

WARNING: aftermarket HID have a low life expectancy.
