Hail dents

I've got a few hail dents on my hood now that I've had a chance to look the entire thing over. They're not bad, but I'm looking for a way to DIY fix them. I've heard of using an ice cube, and I'm actually about to go try that, but if there's a better way, could anyone help?

"Keyboard Cleaner" or whatever? And should I use a heat gun or hairdryer or something on those lines?

Heat gun would most likely work better. And might you have a link for this, I have a few door dings I want gone.

heat works mainly on wide dents on wide planes of metal. I did paintless dent removal for a few years and we would travel to hail storm victim towns to relieve body shops of contracts. some of the bigger dents we could pop with a heat gun just heat it up enough and it pops on its own the tinier dents would have to be pulled or pushed with a suction cup device, hammer, or a body tool we called a push rod that basicly was just an aluminum bar that fit inside of body panels to slowly push a dent out.

if you get. a hail storm In your area insurance covers it..

a suction cup device? Could you elaborate? I have smaller dents.

Completely understandable, aha. I'm not too keen on the repainting part, though, as it's on my hood, which is a very noticeable spot. BUT that could be my excuse to splurge on a sport hood with that oh so beautiful scoop

Take it to a shop that does paint-less dent removal. If you have hood insulation, remove it first to save some money. If you just have a few, it shouldn't cost much and they will do it right.

About 8 years ago, my 4runner was hit hard (300+ on the roof, 200+ on the hood and another 100 or more on the rest of the body). About $6500 billed to the insurance. It came back looking perfect and still does. I was amazed.

Paint less dent repair is not a DIY thing if you dont like what they look like now you really wont like results. Leave this to pros no dent is created equal. Dent removal is skill that is learned. Unless you have some panels to practice on to learn what not to do dont try it. Ice will only work on certain kinds of dents when done properly its probably not going to work on most hail damage. Heat guns can burn and blister paint if too hot without fixing dent.

Based on the information you're giving me, you're running about $10.00 per dent, so let's say I have 3 noticeable dents, will $50.00 cover it? (I'm taking into account an additional fee on it.)

it just depends on which shop you take it to and what there rates are, we always charged by the hour, your typical shop fee is anywhere between 35 and 85 and hour pending which shop you go to.

Removing dents could be challenging depending on the size, location and the material of your hood (metal or aluminum). The first thing you could try is a mini lifter, glue and tabs. You can use a cheaper kit online but those don't always work. You will need a good holding glue such as Tabweld and good tabs (keco). You can find any of these products from Anson PDR, Keco, Dentcraft etc. I also suggest you watch some videos before trying. You don't want to cause more damage to your hood. You can also find a local paintless dent repair shop.
