Half Bumper and front Frame Options

Hey, my name is mac im new on the forum and recently traded a chevy 1500 for a 3rd Gen 4runner with a 3inch leveling kit, new crate engine, and some other performance aftermarket stuff and love it! I would consider myself a above average redneck wanna be car mechanic who graduated high school certified in automobile technicians, but heres my problem:
A week after i got it, was hit in a parking lot, it busted the plastic at the bottom of the bumper and a lil dent on the chrome bumper itself. I thought i would take advantage of the oppertunity so i bought a black stock bumper and am planning on not putting on the plastic piece again. Ive seen some runners on here and other sites that have this similar build, but mine looks very different underneath the radiator and the frame compared to those, i was wanting to add some tow rings onto something but it seems i need some armor/skidplate or a crossmember going from each end. really not to sure. heres what im lookin for:

so the bumper you linked is a stock bumper that was trimmed to look like that. I'll tag [MENTION=91623]CenCalifoothill15[/MENTION] since its his truck and he will know best. The tow hooks are on separate pieces that are bolted into the frame. Something like what was discussed in this thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/26221-front-d-ring-mounts.html. I believe sonoran steel makes some. Others might aswell

Okay thank you. and im missing the front skid plate, do you know where i can get one? and where can i get something to cover up the open space to the radiator like the steel netting he has on his?

you might be able to pick up a stock skidplate off somebody who is replacing theirs or a junkyard. If your planning on wheeling at all I would just go ahead and get a budbuild or skidrow front skid plate. It will last alot longer in the rocks.

you can get that expanded metal pretty much anywhere. online or sometimes even places like lowes or home depot have it

Welcome to the Forum, and congrats on picking a 3rd Gen!

The half bumper has served me well, really just did it to increase my approach angle and front end clearance, and looks good on 96-98 runners but does leave some areas exposed. To cover the AC condenser I used some steel mesh, a.k.a. (gutter guards $5) from Home Depot. And for the shackles I got some mounts welded on at a local shop for $20.

If you don't currently have a front skid-plate I would recommend making that a top priority. Post a pic of your 4R-

Heres my rig, named her pearl haha. 250,000k miles, crate engine dropped in at 225,000k and u can tell, k&n system, front and rear coils with 3 inch leveling kit, 33x10.50's goodyear all terrains with some sweet wheels. Traded a lifted chevy 1500 for it straight bilsteins. How did you attach the gutter guard? and ya as you can nothing under the bumper at all.

I would sell you my stock skid, but I would feel bad since all the mounting points are bent to sh!t :gun4: I can definitely keep an eye out for one though

The reason yours is so much more exposed is because of the body lift. Sounds like a solid excuse for a new aftermarket bumper that accommodates. Also from what I've read the 3inch body lifts are uncommon. You sure it's 3 or is that just what he said?

i just used some good ol' zip-ties... then i zip-tied my front license plate to the mesh.

Made some progress! managed to snap the blinker lights taking off the bumper! i got a lil anxious! going to get the gutter guard and wiring for the light soon. any tips? what do u guys think?

Ryno all terrain products has great skid plates, you can get the full 3 piece set or just the front. I think he also offers them in 3/16" or 1/8". I love mine, wish I had my computer up I'd post pics. [MENTION=101896]isu2014[/MENTION]
