You guys have to come through for me on this. Buddy of mine is looking at picking up a '56 Desoto, and he has to ditch one of current vehicles to do it. He's thinking about pitching his 4Runner, and he's offered me first crack at it.

It's an '85, 22re and w56. It's got a new windshield, new muffler and cat, 5k on BFG ATs, 20k on the engine. A little bit of rust on the quarters and an exhaust leak are all that's wrong with it. The best part? It's unmolested. It's straight OEM from top to bottom. A completely blank slate. The two things I really wish my '86 had are a straight axle and a manual trans. It's my dream truck.

And he wants $2100.

The question is NOT should I buy this truck. The question is not if the price is good. The question is not even how do I raise the cash, because I'll sell an eyeball if I have to. The question is, how do I convince my wife it's a good idea for me to have 2 4Runners?

You guys gotta help me out here, I need ideas!

Don't do it!!! It's not worth the trouble! You can ruin your marriage.. My advice: sell it to me.. I live about 6 hours from SLC and can arrange to pick it up next month! :D

Buy it and tell her it's for her own good. Never can have enough Bug-Out vehicles when the Zombie Apocalypse comes!

:lookout:

Just explain to her that 4runners are a hobby of yours. You want another one and this is a good one to get because of the price and a good 85 that's in good shape. She should understand.

It's a fairness thing...she spends ten bucks, you spend ten bucks. If it's anything like our house, one look through the bathrooms hair products, shampoo's, and perfume...2100 dollars is easy to add up

You need to buy her one because of the hard
Utah winter that is on its way. You care about her
Safety and would not dream of letting her drive
That whatever in this weather. And of course she will
Never drive a 25 yr old POS. BANG....2 Toyota's.
Don't even dream of getting permission, as they say,
Easier to ask forgiveness then to get permission.

I used to work the angle of old vehicles have the ability to break down often, i work on them myself saving tons of money on repairs, but it can take time so 2 old vehicles are much cheaper than one newer one. And as a bonus, they are spare parts for each other.
I had an 85 and an 87 for a long time based on this theory- worked great till i finally bought a new one.

She should understand.

You're not married, are you? :D

I think I've got it figured out. She used to drive an old Ford when she was a kid, and every time she catches me checking out truck porn, she wants to see Broncos. Obviously, I need to get my darling on a trail and get her hooked, and then tell her she has to have her own truck if she wants to come again. Of course, if she gets a old Bronco, I'll need my own straight axle rig to keep up, right?

All too easy. [cue Darth Vader breathing]

Yes I am. However, my wife knows that my time in the garage is peaceful and relaxing for me. It's where I enjoy being in my free time. As long as I spend time with her and take care of things on my "honey-do list" she will let me be. As far as her letting me have a second runner... I don't think she'll go for that. She does want me to get her an old scout or jeep and rebuild it for her. That would be cool and I would totally be down with that. Of course she will have to get greasy and dirty with me if it's going to be her vehicle.

All too easy.

With women, it never is!

Buy it and park it out back with a tarp over it, when she notices, just say "what, that old thing"

I have a deal going with my girl. She loves dogs, I love trucks. Fore ever truck I get, she gets a dog or vise versa....

So, I've got her negotiating, a very good sign :D. I suggested a Bronco to her this morning, and we browsed the classifieds - she just called my cell and asked "can I have a HiBoy instead of a Bronco?" Woo hoo! I believe I've about got this wrapped up. Now I just need to scrape up 2 grand real quicklike, and hope dude-man was serious about selling...
