I live in Richmond and having a really hard time to find places to explorer in my runner.

Same here. I still need to get mine down to the beaches of the Outer Banks. I may try to do that this fall, once all the tourists go home. :D

I was just down at Nags Head 2 weeks ago and the drive on beach that is by Oregon Inlet and the Manteo Lighthouse is closed due to the vehicles destroying the Sea Turtles or something like that. Im sure that there are a few beaches you can drive on in Corolla or in Wilmington or the Carolina Beach area. Used to live in Carolina Beach and there was one beach by our house that I used to go on all the time with my dads Expedition, but not sure if you can still go on it.

I've heard of Corolla before and want to take my son. Does it matter that my 4R is only 2WD?

Corolla is very nice. As far as going on the beach, if you can, I wouldnt risk doing it in a 2wd vehicle of any kind. Some other members on here might protest this, but Ive always done it in a 4wd vehicle. But thats just my 2 cents.

The beaches in Carova, north of Corolla are pretty hard packed, so with the right tires, at the right pressure, 2WD MAY be ok.

Nonetheless, I would take the standard extracition equipment, i.e. shovels, 2x4s, tow strap, etc, etc, etc.

I love going down to Corolla to take the 4Runner on the beach. I do it a lot in the summer time. Seen some pretty sick looking 4Runners there too.

And to almstasian, whenever I go with anyone that has 2WD, they get stuck =/

Welcome from Va Beach!!

Hello to everyone!

Maybe we could get a group trip to Corolla or Assateague Island, MD.

I've always wanted to try driving the beach at Assateague since moving to VA. There's a pretty expensive permit you need, but it seems this part of the country is pay to play anyway.
