Hand unscrewing antenna didn't work

On Friday I tried to take off my stock antenna and of course with my luck it had loctite or some other glue on it. I end up breaking the internal antenna :ybrick:. Took it to the dealership and they said they messed it up in Japan so they replaced my internal antenna with a warranty exchange :hatsoff:. That made my day!

Finally got it back today and was able to put on a new antenna. My first mod!!

Also changed the boring looking shifters for these not so boring ones.

Yes nothing too exciting compare to most of you guys but its a start. Just wanted to share!

It seems to pick up most if not all FM/AM stations here in Chicago. I even get the HD signals as well.

I also broke my internal antenna lead last night by tightening it too much!:bash:

I had put dielectric grease on the threads and it kept coming loose. Tightened it by hand as I have a big spring and Firestik antenna and it's easy to grip and now nothing but static as I must have over tightened it.

I'm going to figure out some way to beef it up when I'm in there fixing it so it can't turn internally again.:gun6:

Hi All -

This is my first post on the forums after always being a lurker!

I had a 2011 SR5 that I had to sell because of a move, and just recently picked up my 2013 SR5!

Sorry to bump this old thread but I didn't want to start a new one being as one already existed.

I am also having trouble getting the antenna off. I feel like my dealer may have used something to make sure the antenna doesn't come off in car washes or anything.

I've tried using a crescent wrench to turn the antenna, but it instead turns the entire base that the antenna screws into and not just the removable part. I stopped trying to make sure I didn't cause any damage.

Has anyone else run into this problem? And if so - how did you go about getting it off? I'm thinking about just asking the dealer to take it out, but I'm not sure if they would do it, or charge a fee.

It's has lock tite (sp) on it, it took me alot of tries, thought I was going to break it but it finally went, used tape and a wrench

My '12 SR5 came with a wrench for the antenna. I found it in the glove box. Glad i had it as the antenna was loose from the dealer.

My '13 SR5 came with the same little plastic wrench as well. I haven't tried to removed the antenna because I haven't had any need to do so.

My antenna is pretty loose and comes off with my fingers in under 15 seconds. I've been thinking of getting a stubby antenna. Where did you get the TRD shifter and the Drivetrain shifter? I really like them.

I've yet to find my wrench. Feeling cheated. :biggrin1: Actually I've switched to a short antenna, so guess it really doesn't matter.
