if you use the harbor freight 6 ton or 3 ton jack stands....dont till you check
the 6 tons #61197 and the 3 ton 56371 or 61196
they have found to be able to collapse....ouch...your dead
near 2 million jack stands are being recalled
I wonder how they fail exactly.
If the problem is with the vertical support breaking a tooth or the locking mechanism failing, the vertical support will just fall until it hits the concrete in which case the vehicle is still held a foot above the ground unless it slides off.
If the problem is with the leg supports, yeah you're screwed if one of those give way.
I have 2 of the 6 tons that are under recall. Most of the time I leave the floor jack underneath as well so I don't sweat too much.
If your job or your life depend on it, don't buy harbor freight.

And this is why I always keep the jack, jack stand & rims tires under there.
Single point of failure is asking for trouble.
If your job or your life depend on it, don't but harbor freight.
