Hard drive on entune system?

Just picked up a 2012 sr5 with entune and the dealer said I could download music to it like the wrangler system I traded in. I can't seem to figure out how and I'm now suspecting there's no hard drive. I searched online a bit and couldn't find anything stating it was or wasn't HD based. My Jeep had a 20gb HD that was a huge benefit for music storage and I'm hoping I still have that option!

Not HDD based but you can add an iPod via USB and have the same benefit.

I also have a 2012 SR5 with the same system as you. I recently discovered that it indeed has a hard drive on it. However, per above you cannot download music to it. When the entune software has its yearly update toyota will send you a usb stick (or you can go to the dealer for them to do it), you plug the stick into the usb port in the glove box and it automatically updates the hard drive with the updated software for the entune system ONLY. Nothing else can be downloaded to the hard drive to the best of my knowledge.

Can you plug in a portable external hard drive instead of an iPod? I am coming from the Ford Sync system and I was able to use a portable laptop external hard drive instead of an iPod with no issues.

Yes, you can. I've never been a huge fan of that interface, though.

Chances are that the 'hard drive' in the enTune system isn't a real hard drive (moving heads and spinning platers don't get along well with being bumped around a lot) but a solid state drive. Which is just a thumb drive with a different interface in stead of a USB interface. If it allows an iPhone or other device, like a hard drive from a laptop, to be hooked up and used via a USB interface then just use a USB thumb drive. This gives 32Gig of space. I've got 5977 songs on mine (most of my CD library) at 256K sample rate and have room for several hundred more.
