Has anybody else damaged their lateral links from rock crawling?

im wondering how common it is to damage these from rock crawling. I damaged mine a few months ago at EJS and i just noticed recently and ordered a replacement. but that was with my lift and small tires and i just got new bigger tires.

The lower links? I've seen a few pictures of completely bent stock ones.

Upgraded replacement ones aren't too expensive and are an easy upgrade.

Or you can just weld a piece of angle-iron to the undersides of the stock ones.

About 5 mins. Two 19mm bolts holding it in and one 12mm bolt holding some tube line thing.

Then you use some ratchet straps to pull the axle whichever way it needs to go to fit the link back in. This can be the hard part. I used some tie down straps to pull it, kind of surprised it works.

Can you get us the details of the piece you welded on? Length width thickness?

Only takes about 10-15 minutes. Helpful using a come along to pull your rearend in position for bolt/unbolting.





I also added plates to the link mounting area as they kept getting all bent up, and a plate to slide over to the links. You can buy bolt on skids for this part, but I had some scrap steel laying around. Haven't had a problem since doing all this anymore.

I think I mentioned it my build thread.

It's just 1/8" thick mild steel angle iron from Home Depot. Was getting some parts to make the welder I bought work and saw the angle iron and said, "huh that would work well!"
