Has anyone here added wheel spacers for a wider stance?

I was thinking about adding some wheel spacers to my 2006 SE V6 for a wider stance and was wondering if anyone here has done it and what they think?

From what I've seen a lot of the members here run the spidertrax spacers. If not, they buy wheels with an offset to avoid spacers. It definitely gives the truck a much more aggressive stance IMO.

I had them on 4th gen. I liked them until I sold the car, then I couldn't get them off since I used loctite on them so I left them. Liked the look of them tho.

I've got Spidertrax on my 2007 V8 SR5... looks and handles WAAAAY better!!

It's also one of the easiest mods ever. If you can change a tire you got this!!!

I did some suggested reading of other threads and now I am little hesitant. A few people have had a wheel fall off. Not sure I want to take that kind of chance.

Perhaps a little more incentive, would be the handling aspect. Any vehicle that has a high center of gravity is at a higher risk of an accidental roll over. A wider track actually makes it more stable. I always wondered why Toyota engineers specifically designed the 4Runner with such a narrow track. The 4th gens are bad, the 5th gens look a little silly.

The guy whose wheel fell off put the lug nuts on backwards. I've been running spidertrax for almost two years/40,000 miles with no issues.

I was dumb and put 285's on OEM wheels. I want to run spacers but am also hesitant. On the other hand I don't feel like shelling out 1k for new wheels.

Probably the same people who ignore check engine lights, squeaky brakes, loud clunks in their suspension, never check their oil level or tire pressure, never rotate their tires, etc. Those wheel spacers have the same type of hardened studs and the nuts get torqued down to the same ft-lbs as the studs on the hub. The 1.25" Spydertrax spacers are a solid chunk of machined aluminum. They simply do not "fall off" without someone neglecting the basics of general maintenance. Even if a spacer cracked, a stud came loose, a lug nut came loose, it still would not simply "fall off".

If you're one that routinely checks and maintains your vehicles, you should not have any problems.

A great and inexpensive mod! Use a torque wrench and the red loctight. It takes heat to remove those bolts! Do it right and no worries.

**Keep in mind -- a product like Spidertrax actually bolts to your hub, then the wheels are bolted to a separate set of studs on the spacer. VERY safe.

Some el cheapo wheel spacers are just machined aluminum disks that push the wheel away from the hub and take away precious threads from the stock studs you're still using to bolt the wheel onto -- THOSE are the dangerous ones!

I ran Spidertrax for the better part of a decade on my Tacoma and never had a single issue. Using them with OEM wheels on my 4Runner currently and am still completely satisfied.
