has anyone noticed this

My 2011 SR5 seems to be doing it also. Maybe I'm just not used to the truck yet, I've only had it 3 days. Anyone know of any issues for my year?

Just got back from dealer. ECM was re-flashed and all seems to be working fine. No signs of the 1st to 2nd shift shudder so far. One service manager said they have seen a few T4R's with this issue. A different service associate said he just had one in yesterday with the same issue and that was the 1st one he had personally seen. Until yesterday, he wasn't even aware there was a TSB for this issue. Sounds like this particular service staff needs a to have a little technical pow-wow on some current issues. He seemed surprised I knew about it. This is a great forum. I will post more if any more issues arise...Cheers:surfer:

Is there a different TSB other than the one mentioned that you had done, because I thought you said yours was out of the VIN range?

I don't know exactly which TSB applied to my VIN. We looked up the Assembly line roll off date and saw it was NOV of 2009. From an earlier post it appeared mine fell after the VIN's listed, but maybe there is another TSB out there. I mentioned the TSB listed from the other thread 0166-10 (I believe that was the number) and he seemed to know what I was talking about. But again, I am not sure if that exact TSB is the one applied to my VIN or if there is another one issued later. There obviously is an issue because he said "No problem, we'll just reflash that for you and take care of it" I didn't meet with the usual..."There's nothing wrong, that's normal" song and dance. Just glad they didn't fight me on it and took care of it.

Do you think if you asked them they would tell you which TSB or reflash they did?

thanks

Just got off the phone with service department. TSB 0166-10 informs dealers to reflash ECM to fix hard shifting issues with ALL 2010 4Runners. I asked him if this dealt with specific VIN numbers etc. and he said from what he could see this applied to all 2010 V6 models with no specific range of VIN numbers annotated. Hope this helps.

Thanks, a few more questions for you guys.

So I assume since mine is a 2011 it should have been done from the factory right? If I was to call the dealer would they be able to tell if mine has been flashed or not? And I assume if mine has already been flashed and there are no other TSBs, there is probably nothing that they can do, correct?

Is there a site where I can find all the TSBs that do apply to my 4Runner?

Thanks again

Do you think they would re-flash mine with the 0166-10 TSB even if they said mine supposedly already had it done? Because I've heard people say that sometimes just doing that can make a difference. I'm not sure why, maybe do to just resetting things.

If you pay the shop labor rate, they will wave sticks at it and paint it with chicken blood while singing Bob Marley songs. Just tell them you want it applied and they will do it, but it might cost you.

when they have a TSB like this is it applied at the factory on the vehicles built after the TSB is released or is it done when it gets to the dealer prior to being sold?

I went to the dealer yesterday and asked them about any TSBs for mine which is a 2011 model with a build date of January 2011. They ran my VIN and said that there is nothing shown for mine. So, I guess what I am feeling is probably just normal, but I thought it was worth checking into.

Just wondering if any of the 2011 owners have had the shudder resolved? Mine has done it from day one, with a light take off it will shudder at exactly 10mph every time going from 1st to 2nd. It is a shudder that is like three quick vibrations; you feel easily in the stering wheel. Service rep said it was breakin probably; although he said the tech could not experience it during a test drive. I suggested BS; but agreed to wait until the 5k sevice like he recommended. Now it has been two months and 3k miles since then and it is as obvious as ever to me. Maybe he meant the truck would break me in by 5k!

Mine isn't really a shudder from first to second. If I have it in park for a few hours, when i put it in drive I can feel a little pop (for lack of a better term) in the brake pedal area. I sort of half feel it, half hear it. It's weird. It seems to be doing it a little less. It's almost like a relay or a valve cycling on. 2011 SR5 with 800 miles on it.

I have a 10', actually just felt this for the 1st time today leaving the grocery store! It was a weird feeling, as stated like a vibration/pulse from the tranny. 12,500 miles. Maybe it did not like being at the grocery store for the 2nd time this week :) All joking aside I hope I don't feel it again!

I have a 2011 and it is rolling up on 5k miles. I am experiencing the shifting issue. Matter of fact I was playing around with it a bit today to isolate when it did it. If I floor the gas pedal it will shift from 1-2 normally... light acceleration I notice it slips causing a shuddering feeling into 2nd instead of shifting. Under manual shift conditions it shifts normally. I plan on taking it in and asking them to fix it in a few hundred miles (my 5k visit). I also notice a delay in the response of the gas pedal under similar conditions. If I slowly accelerate it can take up to 1 second for the car to respond. Feels like play in the gas pedal before the car reacts. Anyone else experiencing this?

From what I understand you never whant to just let your vehicle idle for several hours. We do it in our work trucks all the time (inverters) and were lucky to get 20k out of the motors.

My 2011 sr5 also does this. It shifts better with the firmer springs on my lift but is still preasant. Manual mode it doesn't happen its only when i'm babying it. Unfortunatly, I have little faith in the service staff at my dealearship, I need some hard proof like a TSB for 2011's. Sh*t I know more about my 4runner than the dealer (which isn't any different than any dealer of the 4 other makes of vehicles I own). Maybe toyota should become a t4r member so they can understand whats going on with there rigs.

I've been lurking on the forum since I bought my 2011 4runner in December and I have been having this shifting issue from when it was new. At the 20,000 mile service, I mentioned it to the dealer. They took it and apparently reflashed the ECM, and no luck it was still shuddering from 1-2 shift at 10 MPH. They told me to bring it back if it was still happening.

I took it back to them this week and they told me that they were told by Toyota Technical to drain the fluid 3 times and each time getting the fluid up to operating temperature and then back to cold. I talked to the dealer again today and that didn't fix the problem. Toyota Tech is now telling the dealer to replace the transmission. I talked to the technician this afternoon and he told me that reflashing the ECM usually works to clear the "judder" his term, from the shift points. He said that draining the fluid will usually clear anything else from the clutch plates - so when that failed they didn't have any other choice, but to replace the transmission.

Hopefully this will fix it, I'm regretting telling them about it now. Better to get it replaced under warranty than have it fail later and come out of my pocket. They did say that the transmission was on back order - so this may take a while.
