Has anyone replaced their radiator WITHOUT removing their front grill???

It looks like I will have to remove my ARB bumper to remove the grill ;- (

So wondering if it is possible without removing the grill?

I don't remember having to touch the front grille. Just removed the fan, fan shroud and hoses and it came right out...

I've read that it's possible . I'll be trying it myself next week . But I have removed the grill before without taking off the ARB bumper .

I replaced mine without any thought of pulling the grill. All the fasteners are accessible with the grill in place.

I've never removed my front grill doing the radiator. Take the fan off and the radiator comes off easily after removing the fasteners.

There's a bolt on both sides that are MUCH easier to get to with the grill off. With the right kind of extension (wobbles work best) or a swivel on a 1/4" drive you can get them fairly easy. That being said, the grille comes off so easy that by the time you dig up all the extra long extensions or fumble around with a floppy swivel, you could have the grille off and the 2 bolts out.

Yeah, unless you have a few extensions (normal and wobble) it'll be impossible IMO.
There are only 4 bolts holding the radiator on: a top and bottom on each side. The bottom 2 were hard enough to reach with the grill off.

I started the swap without taking the grill off...then quickly saw the benefit of the grill out of the way so I removed it. I didn't remove the fan as I didn't see it necessary.

I am half way done (also changing the thermostat). I couldn't get the grill off with my ARB bumper on, i needed about another 1/4 inch clearance ;- ( , So I removed the fan like most of you suggested and everything else went fairly easy. The only bolt that was difficult to get off was the lower radiator bolt on the passenger side only because my Transmission Hoses and Winch Solenoid and Wires are all on that side. I am hoping the radiator holes all line up and everything will go back together just as easy it came apart.

I know in your case you can't remove the grill.....but it's far easier to push up on the tabs to remove the grill than those 4 bolts holding the fan on. And hope the PO didn't round one off like one of mine was.

I got the thermostat and radiator installed, went quick.

Question I have is both radiator hoses have a white mark - and one of them also has a yellow mark at the other end, I am guessing this indicates what end goes to the radiator and the other to the engine, I need to know WHAT COLOR GOES WHERE?

Thanks

Not sure about colors but if I remember right white goes to the radiator. The lower rad hose should be kinda obvious as I believe if you put it on wrong it hits something. The top hose has one side that has more of a curve and the other side is a 90 degree angle. The 90 goes on the motor. If you put that on backwards the hose goes right across the top of the fan blade. My first truck had the top hose on backwards. Also, those lines go straight up at twelve oclock so you don't twist your hoses at all.

Grill doesn't come out, the 4 mounting bolts are all accessible from the engine compartment. They all screw into the core support from the inside.

All done, I ended up putting the yellow marks on the radiator hoses towards the engine, I did a bunch of google searches and found only one reference and that is what they said to do. The hoses look good.

The only other issue I had was that the lower bolts that hold on the radiator shroud to the radiator were shorter than the upper bolts and were not long enough to catch the threads on the Denso radiator. I'm not a fan of the Denso radiator and the way it mounts the shroud compared to the radiator I replaced, the radiator I replaced has nuts welded to the radiator for the bolts, the Denso has bigger than needed holes with one of those folder over sheet metal clips that has threads formed on one side. I will post a picture later for those that dont know what I'm talkin about.

I will need to take it for a test drive tomorrow.

I too didn't like that there are nut clips on the Denso I installed yesterday afternoon.

I actually thought about Unbolting the rad mounts from the old radiator and putting them on the new Denso just for that.

I thought about unbolting the mounts too and re using them, but I was running out of daylight and just wanted to get it done. I might take them off and keep them before I get rid of the radiator.

Tomorrow I flush the Transmission.

I also changed the spark plugs and Ignition coils earlier today, I was going to reuse my NDK spark plug wires but they looked really bad were they connect to the Ignition coils, so bad that I ended up putting on my last old set of spark plug wires I saved for an emergency and ordered some new OEM wires today that should arrive on Monday.
