Has anyone replaced their radiator WITHOUT removing their front grill???

Grill doesn't come out, the 4 mounting bolts are all accessible from the engine compartment. They all screw into the core support from the inside.

I think that's how my old 87 Hilux was...not so on my '97 and '00 Runners---bolt heads are grill-side.

I think he's refering to the top and bottom side plate bolts that mount the Rad to the mounts that bolt to the rad support.

For me it's far easier to remove the grill than get at those side bolts. If there old and rusty that square nut in the plastic will spin round and round. Heck it's a pain removing them when the rad is face down on the floor.

Gotcha. Mine were slightly rusty and the new brackets were included so I didn't think about retaining the old.

I should have thought about this a little more before I commented.. I pull the fan shroud off from the engine bay, that's what I was thinking about.... Your right, the radiator itself come off from the front.

I DO know for a fact, that I've never pulled the grill to do it though. I get the top from between the grill and core support, and the bottoms from behind my ARB bumper. But I'm dealing with a desert truck with no rust, so stuff like that becomes WAY easier for me than you east coast guys!

I'm confused as to why people are taking their fans off. I just pulled and installed 3 different radiators on 2 different 4Runners, and there was absolutely no reason to pull the fan on either.
You can hang the shroud on the fan and the rad slips by, or you can remove the half-circle on the bottom of the shroud, and the shroud easily comes out. Don't pull the fan, guys.

I agree, after doing the job I think I could have done it without removing the fan. My shroud is one piece, but I also found out I can remove the fan without removing the shroud and vice versa, I could remove the shroud without removing the fan. I also changed the thermostat, but since I removed the fan, i don't know if leaving that on makes removing the thermostat any more difficult.

Here is a pic of the clips on the Denso radiator that hold on the fan shroud. Not a fan of these.
