Has your 4Runner ever stranded you?

My 96 sr5 never gave a lick of trouble from 124k to 197k. With 3 months after purchasing my 97 limited I was left stranded at the bank. I brought my utility trailer and when I started the engine back up it would not go into gear. I had 10 things to go do and was pretty sick in less than 5k I was stuck and had never been stranded before. The 4 runner got a get out of jail free card as there was an auto zone 50 yards away. Turns our the brake light fuse was blown and wouldn't go out of park. Blew 1 more time until I unhooked the trailer plug which had corrosion on it. Had I been 20 miles back into a dirt road camping!! I carry lots of fuses now.

On a 2nd note our ignition key started giving us trouble as the key wouldn't turn without fiddling with it. My wife couldn't get it started and walked 2 miles from the store home. Got new keys made and although its better it still catches and takes several turns. Although a very reliable car these 2 issues would have most owners brand allegence questioned. I'm a believer I can put 200k more on this thing but after driving 20 years and owning over 20 vehicles including an international scout II with 350k I had never been stuck even when broken down. I could always limp the truck back to town. Hard to fully trust the yota now for deep excursions

Your 4runner hasn't left you stranded, you just need to read this forum more! :love:

There's a little cover on the shifter right at the top. You pop it off and then push a screwdriver or something in there to unlock the shifter. No fuses needed. Next time you can't get her out of park try pushing the shifter further forward like past park and see if that helps.

i took out about 3 lbs of mud from the inside, took out the carpet, abs unit, alarm unit, otherthan that not too bad.

My 91 and 99 both had BHG when i bought it,but i could still drive it around town.after fixing the 91 my friends son bought from me and still on the road the 99 is currently waiting for an engine to be replaced.:amen:
 
Yeah my 92 blew the front right wheel bearing after a fun trip out to Nitnat Lake in April about 200+ kms of gravel/mud logging roads. Luckily I was almost in Duncan and got it towed to a shop. It blew after having a friend repack it 4 months earlier that was the only time a Toyota has left me stranded. My 03 hasn't failed to get me home once. My Jeep GC was different story altogether I swear it spent more time the last 2 years I had it on my buddies trailer than I did driving it.

That's one f/up situation while trying to have a good time. At least he brought back the evidence for the insurance claim, no disbuting the fact.
 
Nothing serious...couple dead batterys. The one I bought to replace the stock unit is a POS so I'm off to get a yellow top
 
I haven't had any problems with the 4R yet except a flat tire but my old '81 pickup with a 22R engine that has over 200K miles on it has had the head gasket go bad 3 times and I had to overhaul the engine each time. Oddly enough it never died anywhere and left me stranded since it always died right in front of my house!
