Hasn't Been Started For Over A Year

I have not started my '93 4 Runner for over a year.

I was planning to do the follow:

1. Replace battery
2. Drain fuel and replace with new fuel
3. Replace fuel filter
4. Replace plugs

Anything else I may need to do?

I'd change the oil and filter also. You might not need to change the battery either. A good overnight charge should bring it back to life just fine.

Spark plug replacement may not even be necessary. Just get some carburetor cleaner from your local store, and give them a good spray.

I'd just crank it. lol. My last car sat for four years. had to tap on the injectors but it started up.

There's a good chance it will have no problem starting. I would suggest fresh fuel, then see if it starts, if not, you may need some starting fluid to get it to kick off.

Thank you everyone for the help. Somethings wrong with the clutch, I'm thinking the slave cyl went out, then my Wife got really sick and I just never got back to working on it. Hope to over the next few weeks. Once I get it started, then will work on the clutch.

What's up with the slave cylinder? Are you getting a dead pedal? It just goes to the floor?

unlikely you need to drain the fuel. If tank was not full when you "stored" the vehicle then I would add a bottle of Winter additive (Dri Gas) to it to disperse any water that may have condensed and collected inside the tank. Then as soon as you can, top it off with fresh gas.

add a can of seafoam to the tank if you can. It is supposed to increase volatility. edit: or that^^

My 03 sat for 2 years. I put in a new battery but couldnt get the old gas out, my hose wasn't long enough. I added some dry gas for the moisture and 10 gallons of fresh fuel. Checked to make sure there was oil and antifreeze and started it up. after the dust cloud cleared it ran pretty well. I have since changed the plugs, air filter, oil, antifreeze, tranny and diff fuids. 1100 miles and knock on wood no problems.
You should be good after you get the clutch straightened out.

shadow247 - Yeah, the clutch just drops to the floor and I grind gears trying to get into first. The clutch only has about 25k miles and I don't use it much. My Dad taught me when I first learned to drive a stick to shift no clutch. I try to only use it at stop lights and reverse.

Gotta get it running. I've wanted one since they came out in '93. I finally got one in '03. I just love it.

Biggest question - was the last tank filled up with E10, and if so, how much fuel was in the tank. That will dictate what the steps with the fuel will need to be.

Should point out (which I'm sure is obvious), I am not a mechanic. My Dad was one for 40 years... me? not so much. When I bought this, I decided I would force myself to do the work on it and push through the problems. Luckily, it's not our main car.

Just spray it in the intake tube. I'm not sure if these motors will run without the MAF connected though. You could try spraying it in hole in the intake for the vacuum hose, that would be my guess.
