Hatch swap 96-99

Apparently toyota switched one of the harnesses
On the newer model where it connects from the body
To the hatch . The grey one is the same but they added a few extra
Wires on the white one . If anyone could help a guy out
It would be greatly appreciated .

I just put a hatch from a 00 on my 98 and it sucked! I just swapped entire wire harnesses, figured it would be faster than figuring out the wiring

Exactly what I did when i put a hatch from a 98 onto my 02. What a PITA but a coat hanger formed into a hook to pull the harness up the pillar to the top made it easier

Exactly what I had to do. Probably took me a little over an hour to get everything swapped over.

So is everything the same except for the modual ? I was having problems with my window before I smashed it up . Would go down and not come up so I'm hesitant to use the same one

no the module and entire wiring harness are different and must be swapped. or atleast mine were.

Yep, everything has the same plugs but 100% of the harness has to come out and be replaced with what came out of your original hatch.

Edit: all of the internal components have the same plugs, the body does not (hence the swap)

Odds are that your window not going back up is directly related to the motor/gears in your current hatch. My window sucked going up until I swapped in the better condition hatch and then it was like new again

Ya the gears worked cuz I jumped the motor to roll it back up . Then it was being finiky . I'm just starting to tear the new one apart now . Wish me luck haha

Ya same problem. As soon as it's all plugged in the thing wants to roll down by it self . Fuk

Well got it figured out . Turns out there's a short somewhere in the key mechanism so I just unplugged that and it goes up and down fine from the switch
