the world is with too many people , that is why we have the high CO2 levels . this gas now too high is damaging the oceans .. to solve this IMO develop CO2 devices that absorb this gas in areas if high CO2 generation . places like cali .. lots of smoke ,pot smoking , burning hills and cars stuck in traffic all day long.

why develop devices to absorb CO2? trees and all living plants are far better and more efficient at CO2 uptake than anything that will ever be created by man, and they produce O2 as a side benefit.

we'd be better off if we were more realistic in energy conservation, usage, and production.

right. except that i purchased mine on the private-sale used market, from an american. so, the dollars went directly to him, not to some "off-shore" corporation. fwiw, i'm not against foreign products, although i avoid chinese made to the extreme.

in actual practice, i almost always look for an american-made new item first, if it exists. it takes some time, but i don't mind. ymmv.

Factories? Dude we're way past an industrial economy. It's a new economy. And adding 1.5 trillion to our debt and counting doesn't help America's future. Another post talked about education. All the tax incentives in the world will not change the fact that we will never be able to compete with 3rd world countries when it comes to manufacturing. It should be common sense that the USA will always command higher salaries for factory workers simply due to the high cost of living here. That said, shifting manufacturing jobs to third world countries helps those countries and American consumers in the form of price control. But it doesn't help American factory workers who lose their jobs. That's where education and the shifting economy comes into play. We've been a Service Economy for quite some time now, but somehow many people here don't seem to realize that.

Point is that buying used or new doesn't matter. The value of the vehicle is already in Japan. And there's nothing wrong with that because it's your money and your choice. That doesn't make it any less hypocritical to wave the flag and complain about American jobs and keeping money in America while buying something from Japan (new or used)

yeah, no. the vehicle has no value in japan, since it sits in the US as a 31-year old dinosaur. it has value to me as a daily driver, and it had value to the person i bought it from, in the form of cash.

I guess your not aware Brazil cut down the amazon rain forest .. 365 day a year CO2 absorption removed . also the congo africa mining going on .. with these areas cut down CO2 will continue to increase ...

been having trouble breathing lately from lack of 02? no? i believe the trees and plants are doing their job fine, thank you very much. put simply, nothing we can create to "absorb" CO2 will amount to more than an anthill in relation to the amount of CO2 absorbed and converted by plants, especially woody plants. while brazil has exploited its rainforest, the rainforest isn't the be-all end-all of CO2 absorption, nor the be-all end-all of plant growth. the largest forest ecosystem in the world, in terms of acreage, is in canada, with former USSR lands the second largest. productivity-wise, the amazon grows faster. but in storage capacity, canada, russia have tremendous capability to sequester carbon for centuries.

sure, there are limits. go look at the Sequoiadendron giganteum in california to see that limit. let me know how many european trees approach that on a stand level.

notice that i didn't make any reference to the european forests. i did specifically mention the russian and canadian and brazilian ones, though. didn't even get into the US temperate forests, which do a very good job of it, too.

amazonian rainforests have been subjected to slash and burn clearing for centuries by humans, not decades. this is nothing new.

China has already endorsed a cap and trade system more than a year ago. Also, as one of the largest providers of capital in the world they have pledged to no longer finance carbon intensive projects around the globe.
