Have you fixed the cracked exhaust manifold problem on your V8?

As I gear up for one last battle with trying to get some help with the cost of dealing with this, i'd like to get an idea of what people have actually done.

I thought about dealing with it, but frankly - it's embarassing. My nice 4Runner sounds like an 80's chevy caprice sputtering through the parking garage the first 10 minutes it's running and I'm sick of it.

If you don't know what I'm talking about then there are plenty of threads for you to read, just go to search and type in "manifold" - there are TONS of threads for you to read.

both with pacesetters $1425 later still got a P0430 code. ended up doing a $5 fix to keep it off. been off for over 1500 miles

Mine is really small. I hear it in a parking garage, but other than that I don't. After 10 minutes, when the manifold gets heated up, it goes away.

I guess I got lucky, and have a minor case.

The whole "throwing a code" thing is the only reason I haven't jumped on the aftermarket bandwagon yet..... I can't find anyone with an 06' + that is using aftermarket ones.....

I have a follow up question also: Does the check engine light go off once the vehicle warms up? Since air injection only kicks on while the car is cold....

You won't find any aftermarket support for the 06+ V8 4runner. Ive done so much research with no luck. Unless you want to build a custom set up with universal parts, there's not much out there. The pacesetters you are talking about are only for the 03-05 4runners without the VVT. I refuse to go OEM from Toyota considering they will crack again.

Like you, I have also done some research. There are options, but it's more complicated than a straight up swap. You need a block off plate for the air injection tubes, which I found a guy who will make for me.

Beyond that - the last piece is the check engine light. I know the air injection only does it's thing while the car is cold - so I'm almost considering just leaving it - if the light goes out. That's why i'm looking for feedback from people who have gone the aftermarket route.

I am also not paying Toyota to do it. I plan to drive this car for a long time, and if I do so, the OEM manifolds will crack again on my watch....

Last bit of effort on my part here.

The 4Runner is going to the dealer for some service on Monday.

I gave the service advisor a list of the parts required for replacing both manifolds. I told him I understand they are a business and need to make money so i'm happy to pay them labor, but I formally requested that they reach out to Toyota of North America and ask for the list of parts on that list for free since I believe Toyota knows they used inferior parts on teh V8'.

I was hoping to tempt the dealer with the idea of them making money on the labor part of it and from my point of view that would cut the bill in half - i can live with that.

If this doesn't work - i'm going to be looking to go the pacesetter route. It's so weird - they are for sale for over 600 a piece on Amazon and twice I tried asking a question and both times it got ignored. Who lists a $600 item and can't be bugged to answer a question about it?

There's a method on here somewhere that uses 2 spark plug non foulers from Dorman in the CAT. Basically the theory is that the aftermarket cats are passing more air/exhaust than the Toyota ones. The 02 sensor/ECU don't expect it, or can react/work with it and so it "throws" a code.

You would take one non fouler and screw it into the bung then screw in the second non fouler and screw the 02 sensor on it. This puts the sensor further out, the opening in the non fouler is also smaller and so the sensor reads less exhaust. Think of it as a spacer.

Do a little search, that's what you are looking for.

Or underdog racing development has a solution too.

I've been using the spacer solution. No issues.
