Have you lined your interior floor on your 4th Gen?

You will have more heat and noise coming through the floor too. Have you checked out floor liners like weathertechs? I have filled mine with snow and mud.

I figured, which is part of the reason for the thicker liner 1/2-1" vs 1/8". We have Husky liners and nothing ever gets on the carpet, but where we will be taking the rig in Latin America the moisture is really high and there are rivers everywhere. I'm trying to avoid future issues.

Yeah the newer "American" rigs are harder to mod for utilitarian style expo.

I spoke with my liner guy about the weight and he says at 1/2" throughout it would be around 120#. Some areas will be thicker/thinner so it should even out. I'm thinking in the end it'll be around 150#, which is worth it to me.

Sounds like fun. It might be worth it to do some metal work to make the interior more usable if you are going to take it all the way apart.

Not sure what all could be done, but I'm open to suggestions for sure. We are taking up all the anchors in the rear and putting down several anchor tracks that allow you to move the hooks and then lining up to that height. Originally that's what started this and then it blossomed in to doing the whole floor.

What other mods would you do?

Well that sounds like a good plan already. I toyed around with pulling the rear cargo plastic out and mimicking a truck bed with sheet metal. I decided I didn't want to put that much effort into it. I also thought about doing an internal roll bar setup with various fasteners and tie down points. My car is a mall crawling Daily Driver that sees a few colorado trips a year so it didn't make sense for me to do a whole lot of metal work.

Roll bar would be cool, but we have the 3rd row seats so that limits a lot. It would be cool to do a compartment in the floor, but I don't think there's room under the rig. I'm hoping some time will clear up soon so I can get started on this.

There is plenty of room to to put something under the rear floor where the spare tire is originally. The charcoal canister is down there but can be moved.

TheJosh put a water tank down there. Medic83 built a storage box into his rear bumper. There are some interesting ideas on this forum and toyota120 for sure.

Yeah!!! I totally forgot about that! That's a good idea. I'd just have to rig it so we can still use the 3rd row seats. Hmmmm...
