Head Lights and Fog Lights

The stock lights for my 2014TE have been bothering me for a while, not enough output when I need it. Trying to decide on what low beams, high beams, and fog lights to go with. Thinking of buying the Rigid D-Series Fog lights, but rather swap out if possible instead of adding those on the grill somewhere.

Ive read way too many builds to even comprehend which ones to go with... looking for suggestions.

And Im a newbie when it comes to electrical wiring and all that, so less I have to do the better!

(1) Cheaper less complicated route: get H11 HID for your low beam projector from either (this is my choice)

TRS: H11: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc
or
XenonDepot: H11 Xenon Conversion | XenonDepot Xtreme H11 HID Kit

If you want absolutely OEM HID look and color... go with XD 4300K Philips, probably brightest; if you want best of both worlds WHITE & BRIGHT, get 5000K or 5500K

(2) Pricy and complicated, but best performance route: get complete retrofit system from TRS; you need to contact TRS and ask how to do it..... pretty extensive mod tho (not my personal cup of tea)

TRS: Morimoto XB LED Fog lights

Get the yellow film too. Pretty plug and play.

Other solutions.... either get another HID H11 system, maybe use 3000K color.... or get an LED bulb?

I haven't figure what I want yet..... I am not that willing to spend a lot of money on "fog" yet....

Or some people mod 9006 bulb to fit in the 9005 slot.... 9006 is much higher output, hence, will be brighter. I am NOT sold on this idea tho (it will still be halogen/yellowish).

Lastly adding DRL/driving light... or just in general, adding light....

I think I will want to add a pair of Rigid D2 or 6" E2 "High/Low" lights (Rigid Industries High & Low Dual Function LED Lights |Rigid Industries LED Lighting, Leader in Off road LED light bars, truck LED lights, Marine LEDs, and Industrial LEDs) in front where [MENTION=107769]Desert Dawg[/MENTION] put his.

I may also consider add this as DRL - X.DRL - LED Lighting From The Retrofit Source, but this will take a lot of convincing to myself for the amount of work/mod, unless I am getting complete new front bumper and I will get it pre-drilled with matching holes.

Halogen? Direct replacement?

To a certain extend..... I gave up on them....

I know that the H11 HID system from TRS or XD are good to go, and they works fine (IMO) in 2014+'s projector (some others may have different opinion). Pretty simple installation, I don't even think you need to drill thru the cover.

I am not sure that I can recommend the TRS XB LED yet, I am very likely to pick a set up; I will report back.

Rigid recently released some SAE-labeled fog light cubes. They have a true fog pattern (not the regular spot or flood that has been aimed downward). They provide a wider pattern with a fairly pronounced cut-off so as not to blind other drivers. The down side is that they are only fog lights, so you will not gain any distance at all from them.

Regarding the low beams, I'd stay away from PNP HID kits. Despite what anyone suggests on this forum or any other, they produce additional glare that can be significant for other drivers on the road. These kits are not made for the 4Runner headlights. Just because some Joe Shmoe on the internet says that they don't glare too much, it's not worth it. If you have ever seen the glare from PNP kits in your rear view mirror or coming head on, you know this already. Your best bet on low beams, though not quick/easy necessarily, might be to try to mount up some aux low beam lights in the lower grill area.

As far as the high beams go, what is the concern? Are they not throwing enough light? How fast are you going that you are that concerned with the distance of light from the high beams? I'd suggest driving lights for more distance if that is the goal (for higher speed and no other cars in front - OR for off-road driving).

I currently have an upgrade on order (actually backordered) to replace the 9011 HIR Halogen bulbs which is:

This way when complete all bulbs will be 5000K (white) in color....buh bye to yellow halogens!

I took [MENTION=119679]theunderlord[/MENTION] 's advice on the fogs. Both of these are direct replacement/plug & play bulbs. Look awesome, great quality, brighter and whiter, better coverage. I'm quite happy and didn't have to mess with wiring/modifications. I'd love to have HIDs, but I'm cheap and saving up for new tires.

I basically have the same issues with my lights on my '15. I'm looking to avoid any modifications to the ballasts themselves. How "plug and play" is your option 1? Does it just involve adding the wire harness and mounting the module or is there cutting/drilling modifications to the ballasts?

I saw those, not too familiar with wiring them all up, dont want to splice my current fog lights, rather have a switch on the inside I can throw them on when needed.

Probably will add a 40" light bar to my Gobi when I save up for it, high beams are my main concern right now.

As long as trucks & small cars are made and people drive them, drivers in small cars will continue to be hit with headlights and consequently be blinded!

I have my HIDs adjusted lower than normal, can still see fine and I have yet to have the first car flash me.

Very true, probably will go with the TRS HIDs, doesnt look to hard to install.

I ended up with "Southeastern" Toyota's OEM dual purpose LED fog & DRL (ring).

Actually, I have a Rigid 5th gen+ Front Grille on order, with the dual color Amber/White 20" E-series, that would be the BEST solution(amber bar) for getting you visible light thru foggy mountain roads.

I did Lexus IS250 projectors with Osram 5500 bulbs, which are supposedly the brightest ones you can buy. I also went with the Morimoto XB fog lights and am very happy with the setup. The fog lights bolted right in, no trimming needed. There is a little gap because they're not the same size as the OEM ones, but it doesn't degrade the beam pattern or output. Here's some pics, and a thread from a company that did the exact same retrofit. I believe they're selling them for $1050, and they should plug right in.
