Head lights not working - fuses blowing

Need some help from the electric gurus.....headlight fuses are both blown (10a)....turn them on and pops the 10a fuse immediately. Low beams (lifetime super brights) were on all day on the trails today 90* day with no issues (as far as I know) then towards the end a buddy said only one headlight is on then none.

Fogs work fine (still) although unhooked to rule that out. Only thing different from yesterday was put in some dual color LED fogs but have since taken them out.

Seems like something is grounding out but all the wires in the headlight loom look fine.

Thoughts?

Your aftermarket headlights are drawing too much power. If you've had them in for a while then it is possible that something melted and shorted out.

Start with the first headlight that stopped working first - all connectors and then start tracing back the wiring.

yeah, that's the plan tomorrow. back to H11 and H16s and go from there. Nothing seemed odd or smelled funny on first look but we'll look around in the morning.

Hopefully its somewhat simple. Hopefully!

First, pull the headlight plugs that go into the bulbs. Do them all. Check to see if you still blow fuses. If you do, you have a short then do the next step. If not, it’s a bulb problem!

It is necessary to remove the battery terminals, negative battery terminal first. Then do a continuity check between both headlight leads and ground.

I “think” the headlight return ground is an isolated ground (sink to ground) and should show no continuity. Electrical gurus please confirm.

The headlight positive voltage lead should show no continuity at all. If you do you have a short

If you have continuity then trace wires back to find the issues.

Morning update....

pulled all the LEDs (low and fogs) and put in a fuse for the right side (pass) and got 12.3 V on the reader. Put bulb in and was fine.

Although it's good now seems like there is something going on. Think that something was overheated and just shut it down? now my issue is that i thoroughly HATE halogen bulbs.... going to plug in one of the @LifetimeLED lows and see what happens. fingers crossed.

Something shutting down wouldn't have blown the fuse.

It appears that the Lifetime LEDs shorted and need to be replaced. Friend had the same thing it turns out.

What I still don't get is why fuse would blow with nothing hooked up. knowing the Pass and Driver are seperate fuses, odd that when we took out bulbs that fuse popped. Not 100% sure if we had the other bulb to see but could be linked somehow.

I'll keep updates as i figure out more.
