Head Lights

Has any one else had problems with the front headlights clouding up? I have an '04 sport 4runner.

do you mean after a good 30 mins driving at night with lights on, when you stop or turn off the vehicle, there's a little haze inside the headlight lens?

after awhile they go away, right?

No. I mean the plastic is cloudy and appears damaged from the sun. I live in Arizona and maybe the sun is just doing it's job on the plastic lenses.

oh, i think that can be a fix by using wax and wet sand. that's what people normally do. i thought you were talking about fog up inside the lens due to the engine block heat.

I had that problem with my Celica. I used 3M rubbing compund and it came right off.

This was discussed in a previous thread. In short, there is a thin layer on top of the clear plastic that wears off or breaks down in the sun/heat. Although rare, once it starts it will continue. Use a gentle polish to restore the gloss, and order a pair of laminated headlight covers to protect the rest of the lens.

Try a product available from Meguiar's -- the same people who make car waxes. It is sold at most auto parts stores and has the name "Plast-X" on the front of the bottle.

It will set you back $6 or $7, but is enough to do your both of your headlights at least ten times or more.

I use Plast-x too. It is a good product. I use it with a mothers mini-polishing ball which attaches to a drill.

The protective film is made by Lamin-x.
