Header noise

I have one header that just won't seal and get a popping noise. Its the header on the driver side, I have tightened the bolts as tight as I feel safe, don't want to pull the threads. I have been thinking about pulling the header and putting RTV red on the gasket. It says high temp but not just how hi temp. I seem to remember that someone had said they used red RTV on their headers. Anybody try it ???

Are you positive it's coming from the manifolds/headers seal? I don't know that these are prone to cracking or not but maybe. Or I used to have a tick that sounded like exhaust leak and after a bunch of messing around with it I ended up finding that the rear drivers side spark plug was nearly stripped all the way and was blowing by the plug. The head itself was stripped not the plug! So it is currently running a helicoil in that hole until I have time to do my engine swap. Anyways getting sidetracked but if you are sure it's the header seal maybe try running a different brand gasket or pull it and maybe have a machine shop check that the seal surface is true on the header itself. Hope any of this babbling helps.

I can tell that I am getting old, they say that your memory is the second thing to go , but I can't remember what the first one was. In order to pull the header I had to remove the air intake, spark plug wires, and a few other things. I then started to check the bolts holding the header on. I found the one that is in the back and under the header was only finger tight, I had forgot to finish tightening it when I installed the headers. The rest were tight and not leaking. I think I need adult supervision at all times.

What brand headers and how do you like them?

They are DNA motoring.......Great looking headers, but all stainless steel, I had a problem with the passenger side, starter interference, I wrapped the starter with a starter blanket to keep the heat off of it and it seems to be working. I also had to remove the cat as the headers are to long, if you assemble them as built. I am not sure if they helped the motor or not as the toy was not running when I bought it so I never drove it, when I rebuilt the motor, I didn't like the exhaust running behind the heads so I installed the headers. It runs ok, but I only have 350 miles on a brand new motor, gas mileage is terrible, but getting better. I also went with a cold air induction.
