Headgasket DIY

I just picked up a 4th gen with a blown headgasket, couldn't find a DIY is there one out there. I did DL the manual.

If not, I will take pictures and create a DIY

I plan on replacing the Gaskets, Studs, waterpump, tensioners, belts. Should I replace anything else?

When I had mine done I bought all the parts. I went with the engine overhaul gasket set instead of just the gaskets. It wasn't much more and had every gasket. Might as well replace any you come across while you're in there. Exhaust manifold and valve cover gaskets come to mind.

OP is your 4Runner correctly listed as an '08? If so, you must be the first or nearly so to have a head-gasket problem in the post-'06 Runners. Do you know the history of the vehicle? Did it overheat or was it not well taken care of by the previous owner? I was kind of under the impression that, short of abuse or neglect, only the '06 and earlier V6's had potential issues with this as the head gasket part number was changed sometime in 05 or 06...

Correct, my 08 is problem free, I just picked up a 04 with the HG issue.

I am not going through the list of sealants, HG, thermostat, ect that I want to order today so I can get going on this the week between Xmas and New years..

OK great! OP, Sorry for your troubles on your '04, but I'm quite grateful to hear that the later 4th gens still seem to be relatively free of such problems...
