Interesting problem. I installed a Philips HID kit and, everything was great. Then I look out the bulb to look at something and am having trouble getting it to lock back in to the headlight housing. My old silverstars still go in fine. Should I try a tiny bit of lube on the threads/ track? Is the plate that bulb locks into replaceable? Thanks for your thoughts.

Check the tabs on your bulbs that fit into the receptical on the head lamp. I once broke a tiny peice off and it was stuck on the groove... Which is impossible to see. If you have some keyboard duster you can give it a quick blast. With some luck you will not blow the debris into your headlamp housing.
