Headlight Bulb Opinions

I have a 2000 SR5,, What bulbs would you guys recommend without buying an HID kit. I was think ing on Silverstars since they do good in my Stang but you guys seem to know whats working best. I dont have the factory fogs but I am looking for a set also. What wattage is too high for the factory wiring also?

That's how I felt with everything up front done up with Silverstars including my factory fogs but wet weather visibilty was improved using new (and much cheaper) H3 fog replacements that were actually yellow in color and those did help combined with the headlamps. I just got some ricer brand H3s and they actually work quite well for only being a little over $20/pair. Even if they last only a year the price makes them a realistic once a year change but they should last a lot longer since I'm not one of those people that drives around with their fog light son all the time.

I have put the silverstar for the low beam, and XD5 5800k for high beam and foglight.... it is very good combination. I like it.
Just found something interesting... which is our 4R windshield is tiny tinted. That means, when I look from the driver seat, the beam is darker.... and it's brighter when I look out of the windows.
Maybe this is why I couldn't see the beam pattern with XD5 before....

He has blacked out headlights (like the jdm ones) which cut down on most of the glare.. but not all. Its not as nice as a projector beam.. but a LOT better than the stock headlights.
I don't recommend anyone putting HIDs in the stock headlights without modifying it. I've done that for a day and it's horrible!

I finally decided to do this...
HERE is a comparison of the XD5 bulbs (I have the 5k temp) and the Silverstars
The passenger's side are all XD5's, the driver's fog and high beam are XD5's....the driver's side low beam is Silverstar
The Silverstars are noticeably not as white as the XD5's, both looking at them and looking at the light on the gound in front of them.

how come the color of the Xd5's look different now? (bluer) in comparison to the pics you posted on Page 5 of this thread? Just curious, do a side-by-side and you'll see what I mean. The Page 7 silverstars look like the Page 5 XD5's.
Ebay the best place to get these bulbs?

no idea...the only thing I can think is that they were two different cameras...the first set was taken with my Canon digital Rebel SLR 300D (6.3mp)...this last set of pics were taken with my Canon S400 (4mp)... I'll take some with my SLR to see if they show up like the first set
BOTH sets are completely un-edited...no photoshop enhancement at all

I had been running Silverstars for about a month or so for lowbeans (55w) and decided to give the XD5's (5800K 55w) a try because they were inexpensive.
Put them in today and did some driving tonight. First, to me, they seem bluer than the Silverstars, and maybe not quite as bright, but that may be because of the blue tint.
I will let you know how I like them after a week or so.

I have the XD5's in both of my foglights and right now neither are working very well. At first I thought they burned out my harnesses but if I jiggle the wires around the lights come back on. As soon as I hit a bump though they go off again. Looks like I got some looses connections, but on both sides? Seems a little funny.
I'm going to put the factory bulbs back in and take it to the dealer and see what they say about it. Really sucks though.

the micro-lens is the main part for the HID. it spread the light out further and stretch it wide. that's why it's brighter. plus, the lens uses less glare and more light. i know it's kinda confusing but that's how it works.
i currently running on stock lights. i did plan to get better bulbs for my headlights but somehow my friend encourage me to keep my stock bulbs just because it last longer. what do you guys think about PIAAs? good or no?
