Headlight Bulb Opinions

No...never had one go out (goin on 2 years now) :) Also, they are not blue at all...just a really pure white...I dont like the blue ones either...and I was so satisfied with them on my 96 4Runner I replaced all the lights on my Supra with them, my brother had them on his Stealth, and now on his 05 Legacy awd turbo, my mom has them on her Grand Marquis and now I have them on my 05 4Runner :)

You could always try a pair...they are only $10 ;)

they offer the different K's like 5800k and 5100k...my brother found that he has to use the standard wattage in his fog lights due to heat issues...but I've been running the higher wattage ones in my vehicles with no problems

I went to the site and don't know which to order. What's the difference between the "Standard Wattage" and "High Wattage". Are those pics compared to the factory lights pretty accurate looking? I always thought the 4Runner had pretty bright factory lights. My buddy has a Sentra SER and he bought Sylvania Silverstars ($40 @ walmart ), but they are definately bright as hell! Do you think these XD5's are as bright (or brighter as they claim) then the Silverstars? For one thing, they're definately easier on the wallet. On the site it says there legal in all states.

Osram bought out the Sylvania lamp division a quite few years ago, the bulbs are the same.

Cliff s

That's what I thought, but was starting to doubt my knowledge while reading this thread. So many people saying that one is better than the other. Funny. We should do a blind test.

SilverSTARS. Pure. White. Simple.

Yeah but that's the same thing the XD5's claim too. I'm starting to think this is like any other mod. Brand loyalty, you like what you use and therefore claim "it's the best". The XD5's and Silverstars look almost identicle to me. The only true way would be to have both side by side taken with the same camera. Unfortunately that probably won't happen. Also, it's really easy for a manufaturer to enhance their photo comparison pictures to make their bulbs look way brighter. Never thought picking a headlight bulb would take so much research! :D :D

I've never used the Silverstars so I can not make a fair comparison...but like I said...its only $10 to try them.

I'm not trying to drum up business for that site...I just wanted to post what I've been using for a few years now...they are very bright and very white :)

Maybe someone that has silverstars could have a side by side comparison....maybe i'll go buy some silverstars to do just that *hehe*

iForce...to my eye..these bulbs are just as white as the ones you posted....

I agree, they look identicle to me. Think I'm going to try the XD5's. Like you said, they're only $10 ;):

Hey 24Runners
what was the number on the corner lights from
superbrightleds.com? I was looking for something like that!
Are those white or blue?

Yes they are the LEDs from suprebrightleds.com that have 5 bulbs...WLED-5 Wide Angle LED bulb..I do see they have a 6 bulb LED too.

I really like these being white instead of yellow. The pic makes them look more blue than they really are...its more of a ice/white with a slight blue...looks really good with just the parking lights :) and they dont cost much.

another thing to look out for is... yes.. they LOOK white, but what about the beam! That's the most important part! If the beam light is just as white... then that's what you want. If all it is that it "looks" white and it gives a crappy beam intensity, then your sacrificing safety.

im using silverstars w/ piaa ion yellows... they work fine, but i don't know if the silverstars last too long... so far, i've had them for 3 months and i keep my headlights on "auto off" so they're on as long as i'm driving... and that's a lot... but they look great.

I just bought a set of the Silverstars for the low beams and they are definately brighter then the OEM's. I'm going to order the XD5's for the fog's and high beams though ($20 compared to $80). I'm happy with the Silverstar's brightness, just not the price.

I just ordered XD5 Xenon/Krypton Super White 5800K "Quartz" Bulbs (high wattage) for my high beams and fog lights. Hopefully they get here soon. I'm excited to see how well they compliment the Silverstars.

Do a side-by-side comparison as well as a short drive in the night to see the difference. Remember... pics!

yes pleeeze do :) as I said, I can not say if they are better than the silverstars or not because I havnt had the silverstars...so a side by side would be nice :)

my brother has had the silverstars...he said that the ones in america arent as good as the 'european' version silverstars or something like that (he's part of many online car clubs so he gets all kinds of weird info)...and after seeing the XD5's in my cars, he got them for his car...cant beat the price :)

I just bought some xd5's, high and low beam - asked for 5800's and they sent the 7xxx's for one pair

Cheap enough to try them and see how likeable they are... the blue paint on them is probably a bad sign

I received the lights today. I ordered the XD5 5800k 9005 and 9006 (for highbeams and foglights). They sent me XD5 5800k 9006's, but GP Thunder 8500k 9005's for some reason. The GP Thunders have a slight blueish/violet tint to them and I don't know if I like that yet, they are really birght though.

Anyhow, the highly antisipated comparison between the XD5 5800k 9006's and the Sylvania Sylverstar 9006's will be done on Saturday. I'll post the pics so we can all be satisfied on which is the brightest :D.

24Runners, hope you don't mind but I really liked the blue parking lights so I ordered a pair of the 6-LED blues and put them in too. I like how they look but I'm wondering how long it'll be until I get pulled over by the police. They're not very bright from the front but they really stick out from a side view.

I have no idea what the Thunder 8500k's look like...but the 5800k's look fine on mine :) I'm interested in the comparison too...who knows...maybe I'll switch to the silverstars ;) But for $10 a pair (and, at the time, I had 2 4Runners and 2 Supras so thats a LOT of bulbs) I went with these because they have been very good to me...long lasting and VERY BRIGHT.

I also like the LED's for the parking lights...when they are all on, it looks very "crystal" in the headlight housing *hehe*

I thought they downgraded me with the GP Thunders at first. I checked on the website and those bulbs are around $18 instead of $9.99. Maybe they were out of the XD5 9005's and sent me the next ones up, I don't know. So far I like the XD5's a lot(as far as the fog lights go). They are very bright and so far they seem like they're whiter then the Silverstars. We'll see soon enough though ;):.

I love how it looks with just the parking lights on at night now. That blue looks really good.

Quick question for anyone. Is it easy to raise the headlight beam on the 4Runner? I know most vehicles just have screws to aim the lights but I haven't looked yet. It seems like my headlights lights are aimed too far down. Maybe SUV's headlights are just aimed lower though. When I look at my headlights head on I have to crouch way down to get the full effect of the brighter bulbs. Think I should try to aim them higher or would that be unsafe for others in front of me?

I have an 02 and tried the high wattage h4's xd5 on mine and they are pretty good and cheap. It does take a couple of days to get use to that kind of light though if you have not had any experience w/ it. I will say they are really white, but, when you look from w/in the windshield they look a bit blue, but barely. Once you stick your head out of the window, you can tell the difference. TRY EM they are only $10.
