Headlight Bulb Upgrade for 06+ Projector Headlights

I searched, but didn't find much for 06+'s with projectors.
I want better visibility on the road and the stock bulbs seem pretty weak with respect to all the other cars I've owned.
What are some better bulb options (low beam besides Xenon HID + high beam halogen bulbs)? I don't really wanna wire harnesses for HID's and I am not even sure if they are better.

Other than a plug and play HID system, you could simply upgrade to a Sylvania Silverstar bulb or PIAA super white.

With the stock projectors in the 2006, a plug and play HID system isn't a half bad option in my opinion if you're looking for brighter output and a fuller beam pattern.
 
I went with the silver star bulbs, they are much brighter than stock. cost me about $50 for the pair. I've been lucky but there are reports that the bulbs don't last long.
 
I went with silverstars, but I wasn't happy with the output. I put in a xenon depot HID kit and am very happy. It's more expensive, but the components are very high quality and they light off every time. Unlike some cheaper kits out there.

Here's the low beam on a dark hilly street.

I went for the more expensive extreme kit. It used to be $200. Comes with everything including some nice rubber coated gloves so you don't touch the bulbs!

I have the 6000k kit which has the slightest hint of blue. The 4300k actually puts out more light is what the OEM's use for their HID, but I like the little bit of blue. 8000k are much bluer and put out even less light, and anything higher than that is just purple.
 
Don't bother with halogens if you already have a projector housing. I got the $50 DDM kit a year or so ago, installed it in 20 minutes with no tools, and it made a HUGE difference. It's my favorite mod so far.

Seriously, if you have projector housings, you're already halfway there. You see zimm's picture above, right? It almost literally is a night and day difference. Don't compromise.

Thanks - I don't like the blue tint look, so I'll get a 4300K kit.

What made you decide to go with Xenon Depot vs. the cheaper kits, like DDM?

Xenon depot has higher quality components- like phillips bulbs and name brand ballast, etc. For a daily driven vehicle I wanted reliability and my kit has been going for 3 years with no problems.

I had a DDM kit on a motorcycle and it worked just fine too, but it has cheaper Chinese components in it.

This. X-D components are good stuff, and well worthwhile, aka "do it right the first time". Also note that X-D is a T4R sponsor, Steve, the owner drives a 5G.

4300K (get Philips) bulbs yield the most lumens. Any higher K value gets bluer, and actually reduces lumens. 5000K looks nice too, with insignificant lumen difference. I had a 4300K in one side, and 5000K in the other recently, and side-by-side the 5000 looks whiter, so I kept those in.

I used the Silverstars et al for several years, and yes, they are somewhat short-lived.

Thats an excellent pic Zimm - I can't see any scattering of the light. If I didn't know the HID's are in a non HID projector housing I would have thought it was OEM HID Projector housing. :thumb3:
 
I would go with the X-D kit and be done with it, I've had mine for a little over 2 years. One of the relays went bad a year or so ago and he sent me another pair asap, good CS alone is worth the higher price tag.

The secondmost impressive thing about projectors, is the remarkably wide spread of light.
 
Will the 06+ headlights go on a 03 to 05 model? The bottom of the headlights on the 03 - 05 models is straight, whereas the 06+ model is not.
