Headlight restore with Meguiar's PlastX

My headlights weren't terrible but had a yellow haze for awhile now and I read good reviews on this stuff so I decided to give it a go. Walmart had it for under $7 (+$2 for the pads, but you can use any microfiber towel) and it took all of 5 minutes to do and cleared them up nice. Reviews claim that just 1 use lasted people for years, but even if I have to re-do it ever, it seriously is quick & easy to do:

(left light before, equally as bad as the right)

(right light after)

(all the residue left on the pad)

If you coat the headlights with a good sealant (Meguiars M21 or consumer level Ultimate Wax) and keep them coated every couple months, the hazing won't happen again. It's oxidation, just like what will happen to your paint if you don't keep it sealed and/or waxed.

I also use the Meguiar's Plast-X to keep my 03 headlights relatively clear from oxidation.

The Meguiar's website recommends using their Headlight Protectant afterwards.

But like Mc1337sauce said, I simply use a wax - in my case I use Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0 to coat them. If using wax, be sure to use one that has no abrasives in it.

You should use the multi stage kit if your lights are bad. It worked great on my girls Prius. Be sure to tape of the paint around your lights.

Yea I used the Meguires wax I use on the rest of the vehicle - should be good :hatsoff:

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt.

The problem with prolonged useage of Meguiar's PlastiX is that you must keep doing it. Eventually, the UV coating gets worn down and the headlights keep getting hazier and hazier until you finally give up and try to fix them with something Griot's or the like (and eventually buying OEMs).

I applied it every two weeks and got a couple of years using Meguiar's. YMMV
