Headlight Stalk Diagram

I have a 99 sr5 and previously did a retrofit and everything worked great; both highs and lows worked and could switch back and forth no issues. Decided I wanted some fog lights so I got the oem fogs and brackets and stalk from another t4r member and plugged it all in and worked great; so I thought.

Turns out if I turn my high beams on now whether pushing the stalk forward to lock them on or pulling to flash them they won't turn off unless I toggle the headlights on and off. I've tried searching the forums/google but haven't found a similar issues. Most issues seem to be related to a bad fuse where only highs or lows come on and everything worked great so I'm pretty sure it's just the stalk. Wanted to see if anyone happened to have a diagram of the stalk? I'm hoping the leads just need to be straightened or cleaned or something.

I've been going over this thread trying to peak at the inside of the stalk, but I can't really tell whats what.

I'm assuming you also added the OEM fog light relay and fuse in the engine bay fuse box? If you remove the relay, does everything return to normal?

Does your truck have daytime running lights? (assuming not, unless you are in Canada)

Are you running a special harness for the HID retrofit? Assuming you have bi-xenon projectors with a shield that moves for high beams?

Does your high beam indicator work normally? (full brightness when on, fully off when off)

There's a good chance that the combination switch is just fine and it has something to do with the way the wiring is done on your HID retrofit. (not necessary a problem, just an issue with how the stock wiring and the HID wiring interact). It should be fixable with a diode or load resistor or both...

Charlie, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes, I added in a relay for the fog lights, but no it was not OEM. I'll try to pull the relay tonight and see if the issue still exists.

No, I do not have DRLs.

Yes, I am using MotoControl Bixenon: H4/9003 wiring harness, and yes I am running bi-xenon projectors, D2S 5.0s from Morimoto.

High beam indicator no longer works, but I believe it was working fine before I put the fog lights and stalk in.

I'm going to to try to pull the fog light fuse as you mentioned earlier and see if that resolves the issue. If not I'll put in the old stalk with the fuse removed and see if it all works and move on from there.

Before you do any major surgery, try plugging in an H4 bulb to the unused plug (the Morimoto harness only plugs into one side, right?). That will load the stock electrical system and might fix the issue.

If it does, you need load resistors to make it all work.

If not, check using the original switch, then test with fog fuse and relay removed (I don't think that's the issue).

Also, post the part numbers of your original switch and the new switch when you get a chance.

I didn't have any h4 bulbs available at this time, but I did pull the relay from and everything started working properly again.

I guess I'll try to get an oem relay and some h4 bulbs just in case it's not the relay.

Just to be clear, the H4 bulb is just for a quick test. You won't be able to run it out of the housing just sitting there in the engine bay.
