headlight upgrade confusion .. help

It is a FACT that HIDs output more lumens than most halogen bulbs. The 2003-2005 OEM headlight housings were not designed for HID kits; hence the glare produced by HID kits in halogen reflectors.

Maybe if you drive mostly highway you've never been closely impacted by folks who throw HID kits in halogen housings but the fact remains that you are using a headlight in an illegal manner it wasn't designed for and because of that you can at times be a safety hazard to opposing drivers.

Driving a single lane road in the rain (which also magnifies light glare) with an oncoming car running a 6000kelvin and up HID in halogen housings is going to be blinding. It's not rocket science.

comparison of Kelvin to lumens;
Standard OEM halogen 55W 9006(HB4) = 1100lm (lumens)

4300k D2S Philips = 3200lm (lumens)
4300k D2R Philips = 2800lm (lumens)
4300k D2S Philips = 2400lm (lumens) actually 5800k
4300k D2R Philips = 2000lm (lumens) actually 5800k
4800k D4S/R (brand) = 3800 (lumens) ** brightest in the market
5800k D4S/R (brand) = 3300 (lumens)
7000k D2S other = 1790lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand)
7000k D2R other = 1390lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand)
8000k D2S other = 1180lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand)
8000k D2R other = 780lm (lumens) *(other bulb brand)

Good info. I do understand that an 03-05 runner with 5000k 35w or 55w setup can be blinding and annoying. Just dont think an 8000k at 35w setup with the headlights aimed right would be "blinding". I agree that rain does make it worse for other drivers.

Nah 8000k and up are too blue for good visiblity. Around 5000k for sure are brighter. I still think something is wrong with your eyes because you get way too upset over something so small. I bet you cry over all cars at night not just the ones with HIDs.

A troll with bad vision never hurt anyone buddy. So attacking everyone without projectors is pointless... and washing cars doesnt make you an ASE master.

[MENTION=90013]HHIRunner[/MENTION], here are a few pics I took a little while ago. The first picture is my headlight (silverstar zXe), and the second is my regular stock fog light. I couldn't really get a head on picture because I don't really have a nice camera and they just showed up blurry.

As you can see there is quite a difference. Another member did mention, however, that these lights don't last that long. Well I had another set of these in my Camry and they lasted for a year and my buddy bought it from me and the same bulbs are still going.

Does the 4th gen not have a bulb-check on the headlights? Does it not trigger a bulb-out warning when you plug them in?

i just installed the daystar 2.5/1.5 so i definitely gotta aim them down now.
