Headliner questions, how flexible, or how easy to remove?

I have a chance on a 99 Limited that has some damage to the roof. The cross support beams are fine, but the sheet metal is buckled in between them (almost like someone stood on it). I'm hesitant on leaving the headliner in there when I go to poke it back up with my own 2 foot press.

It's mostly in the rear section of the roof. Nothing that is interfering with the rear hatch or doors whatsoever.

How hard is it to remove? I'll get into details of the rig if I actually get it.

Curiousity, could you just use a plunger to pop it back out, or is it much more dented than that?

You know, I thought of doing that because the depression is big enough that it should pop back easy. It's not a small concentrated buckle. I might give that a shot first but I'm not sure how I would secure myself above it to give it a good pull.
