Headunit Install confusion?

Hello all,
I'm planning to install a headunit in my 4th gen, and done quite a lot of research, but it's VERY confusing it seems.

It appears that specific 4runner models get different connectors, and different dash kits, which makes my search even more confusing, as crutchfield says one thing works, while a forums says it doesn't work. To make matters worse, it seems as if there's 3 different factory headunits for this gen. Non-JBL, JBL w/o RDS, and JBL w/ RDS, and they seem to use different wire harness'

I have a 2007 Limited 4WD, with JBL. Not sure if I have RDS or not..

1. Could someone guide me which dash kit and wiring harness I need?
2. Is there a pin out diagram on here somewhere?
3. Is it possible to retain the factory sub after install?

Thanks

You do not have RDS. You should be able to retain your factory sub. Not sure about a diagram .. I replaced head units in my 2004 limited and 2006 set. Crutchfield had the appropriate harness for each. I got better advice by calling Crutchfield vs online.

I just did all this. When I get home, I'll research what I got and post it here. Same system in my '06 Sport. I still have factory amp and steering wheel controls. I installed a Pioneer double-din unit.

Replacing JBL w/o RDS HU. Purch Kenwood HU from Crutchfield and the TYTO-01. I'm now at the stage where I'm looking at all of the loose wire ends on the TYTO-01 harnesses and am scratching my head.

You guys are lucky. I installed my Kenwood unit without the help of this forum before and didn't know it existed. It makes it so much easier when you ask and people just tell you. :music:
