The one above the muffler broke off on mine last night. What a racket that makes!

My did the same thing a few months ago. The shield pushed down thru the bolts, I just put some large washers over the bolts a put it back up. No more noise! If its rubbing on the driveshaft I would get it back up soon as possible.

heat shield fix

I recently had this problem on my 2006 4Runner. The heat shield is actually over the muffler, not the drive shaft. The technician was able to reattach it using fender washers as shown in the attached photo. It isn't an urgent fix but if you remove it you may find passengers in the back seat with toasty feet!

I used a large washer and installed it back. without the heatshield, the top part (the floor) can start rusting more quicker. you'll see how the surrounding part of the muffler or exhaust pipes can rust. I guess it's the combination of heat, water splashes ruins the metal.

the heat shield on my cat converter was making an awful noise for a couple weeks. i finally ripped it off and haven't looked back since.:zoom:

Thanks guys. Its been off for about a week or so now and I haven't looked back we either. That noise was almost embarrassing

I lost all of my heat shields years ago and never had a problem. Really nothing but heavy duty tin foil anyway.
