Heated Mirror Woes

Easy check for you: Turn on your rear defrost and touch the mirror glass, if it gets warm, you have heated mirrors.

:D I looked all over for the mirror heating switch (was a seperate switch in both of my old vehicles), and couldn't find it when my mirrors fogged up over the weekend. I assumed I didn't have heated mirrors after all until I read this thread. Never would have thought of the rear window defrost button as the trigger. Guess I should have read my manual more carefully!

:artist: Hmmm, I take it that if I were to tap into those heater wires and heat glue them to the back of my current mgfr SR5 mirrors; then I would have a poor man's heated mirror. Well, at least it would clear a small spot in the side mirror on cold, foggy days for me to peek out of!!

Well, I don't know for sure, but it certainly looks that way.

Fatty,
If you are going to go that route, then you should look into purchasing the mgfr's color-coded heated/turn signal mirrors. These are currently only available as an option to 4Runner buyers in the southeastern part of the USA. I don't know if you can get them in Canada or not....but they are not available to California buyers. At least they weren't back in g 2004 when I bought my truck. I personally have some family back in the southeast and have strongly considered making this purchase using their address.

i wanna go out and buy color keyed heated mirrors for my sr5 but im scared that i'll be stuck with two three hundred dollar mirrors and 600 bucks thrown into the garbage but i cant stand the black non heated mirrors and there isn't no mgfr's color-coded heated/turn signal mirrors sold in the northeast region so i need u guys suggestion and advice

I've already installed the heated mirror glass on the weekend. I did look into the Muth mirror with the turn signal built in, but I thought they were a little too pricey.

i just purchased the color-keyed mirrors and installed them on my sr5 it took a hole 15minutes and so far they work great. the plugs are exact simple install although im still not sure if the heat works how is there an easy way to find out would they automatically go on when i open the defrost

Just turn on the rear defroster and the side view mirrors should get warm to the touch. If not, they're not working. :(

How much did the new mirrors cost?

lol i feel so dumb now... Did that check with my sport and felt that warm spot.. haha i've owned her for a year and a half and i never knew i had heated mirrors...:p

When you bought the heated mirrors from the dealer, did the plugs come with it? I guess I'm trying to figure out if there is any modification or wiring that needs to be done. I would prefer it if it was just a straight unplug the old, plug in the new operation. Any confirmation would be much appreciated.

Also, anyone able to get these in California?

mine was a straight plug in it was easy
check to see how many wires the mirror harness on the door has
more than three your good to go

Do I have to take the door panel off? Is it pretty hard? I've been trying to keep this car in new condition unlike my previous car (which I didn't give a sh*t, hehe). I'd hate to break anything.

Also, anyone know where I can buy these? Any online stores selling these? I would very much prefer these to be OEM rather than an aftermarket.

salvage yard?

I've got an 03 sr5, wondering if I can pick up some heated mirrors at a salvage yard, anyone done that yet????

Nevermind, I found the parts on Partznet.com. Has anyone actually put just the mirrors on the SR5 mirror assembly? I've got a black 4runner SR5 so I don't really mind the stock nonpainted black side mirrors.

I also would just be interested in the heated mirror glass only. I found the heated mirror glass for around $67 each, but no part numbers.

My questions:
-What are those part numbers, left and right?
-Does the mirror glass include the heating elements and wiring harness to plug into existing harness?

Hope someone can help. Thanks.
